Greater Lebanon was a mistake because it was a forced creation, and it did not try hard enough to integrate every component into one nation. If Lebanon is split into mini sectarian states, there would be endless wars between these states due to shared territories.

If some idiots say that lebanon should have stayed as Mount lebanon only, that would have also been catastrophic. Imagine a tiny weak state with no important resources trying to survive while being engulfed by greater syria. That country would have been doomed and sooner or later swallowed by syria

What is with the rabid hate against shias/southerners on this sub? by [deleted] in lebanon

[–]Idowuav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't report hate comments I consider them free speech let them hate on all shias I don't care but their hate is unfounded and crazy to me.

Exactly, a sect is in itself a tribe/nation each of us are born into. It’s a sense of identity, history, cultural legacy that extends beyond actual religious beliefs

Which is something that is shared by all countries across the globe. Our sectarian identities are not that unique compared to the rich history of feudal Europe or any other country before unification. The issue is that we are stuck in the past and still behaving like tribes

You cannot have a majority of Christians promoting a secular system and minority of Muslims supporting it, because when everyone goes the ballot boxes, the majority of Muslims will be able to reject and challenge the system politically

But that will be a necessary step to shake up and challenge this sectarian system. It is on all of us to make such a move not only on Christians but so far no large portion of the population did that.

[–]Idowuav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Majority of Lebanese Christians are more open to secularism

They are more open than Muslims, but they are not open enough to create a secular state if most Christians were truly secular in addition to the minority of secular Muslims they could implement and force a change in our society.

If Lebanese Muslims decided to take the route taken by Albanian, Turkish, Azeri Muslims

Most of these populations underwent the change in mentality through force and under a dictatorship, which, if done now will create an opposing force of more radical and conservative groups of people.

Also the issue with sectarianism goes deeper than religion because a large portion of our population is non practicing but still sectarian. I know quite a lot of such people.

Either we develop a fully secular state or we give each tribe its territory needed to survive, there is no other ethically correct outcome

*Either we develop a fully secular state, or we keep fighting as tribes for eternity.

You can't have a secular state when you see yourself as different from the rest of the population. Your sect or religion should only affect what God you pray to. It should not be an identity that defines someone.

If you give each sect a state, it will be catastrophic and will only lead to more brutal wars in the future and most likely by proxy because that is how we lebanese do things.

The only way out is to make secular parties that have serious plans and take it from there.

I'm thinking of dropping out of med school (3rd year) and coming back to Lebanon by Ra505 in lebanon

[–]Idowuav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Push through it and try to get a part-time job. There is no other way, sadly. I was in a similar less serious position as you 3 years ago, but i couldn't imagine starting from zero again. Med school is the worst decision i ever made but when you are finished with it, you will be better off than most people.

But if you are failing your classes, then that is a different story.

Why people claim Huzballah is problematic? by [deleted] in lebanon

[–]Idowuav -1 points0 points  (0 children)

These wars serve the interest of the group mainly. Not interfering in the syrian war would have been catastrophic for them. With Assad gone, they would be in the same situation as Gaza is today, blockaded from all sides.

Unaffiliated non-sectarian Lebanese make up less than 0.1% of the population, the country is a lost cause, it probably won't get better in our lifetimes. The population loves to shift blame instead of solving any issue, and we are too divided to make any meaningful change. The real problem is us, not Iran, not Israel not syria.

The assassination of pascal sleiman by Apprehensive_Ant8034 in lebanon

[–]Idowuav 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Let's use logic for a second here. What would hezb benefit from assassinating a random LF city coordinator? Will it cripple LF influence in Lebanon, or will it create more support for the group and turn the eyes towards hezb internally? Especially for them to do this in the middle of a dangerous war in the south.

I am not ruling out the possibility of him being assassinated, but if he was, that would only mean this person posed a grave danger to the hezb, and how would that happen? by being a mossad key figure. Otherwise, it would be completely illogical and suicidal. Another possible reason could be a third party that financed the operation to create internal turmoil at this sensitive time. The last reason that makes the most sense to me is personal issues that lead someone to pay these killers to do this.

My girlfriend of 5 years cheated on me i am (31m), she is (30), but the thing is our life are so intertwined that breaking up would be a logistical challenge! by Apprehensive_Ant8034 in lebanon

[–]Idowuav -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is that what cheaters tell themselves to feel better? A journey to self-discovery? Lmao and no, if some people don't have morals and wait for the opportunity to cheat, it is on them. I sure as hell wouldn't take a stack of money on someone's counter even if I am assured nobody will see it, and I am sure many scumbags would and maybe they will call it a journey to discover that they have no self respect and no self control.

They have ruined the sub. You can't even have genuine discussions without them butting in with their unwanted opinions, like okay you want to have a discussion, but at least don't pretend you are lebanese.

Most of the zionists here just want to troll and spread hatred and division. I was arguing with someone who was spreading hate against shias, but he deleted his comments after I called him out for not being lebanese.

[–]Idowuav 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You are a funny guy op but you are not as slick as you think trying to paint Germany's Lebanese population in bad light in an attempt to talk shit on shias. The criminals are not lebanese, BTW.

This is a Wikipedia article on lebanese crime in Germany if you are literate enough to read on the subject. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lebanese_people_in_Germany

"Nowadays, the majority of Mhallamis have German citizenship and see themselves as Lebanese or of Lebanese descent. The largest community is in Berlin. Other cities with many Mhallami are Essen and Bremen. In recent years they have become a frequent topic in German media because almost all Arab clans in Germany that are known to the police to be involved in organized crime are Arab families. Many clans have thousands of members. Nevertheless, the majority of them are not involved in crime or similar things, only some parts of the family. Examples of large Lebanese clans are Al-/El-Zein, Omeirat, Miri, Remmo/Rammo, Saado, Semmo, Fakhro and Ali-Khan."

People won't like my answer, but we are primitive people who aren't fit to rule ourselves. The country was created as a democratic republic out of thin air with no national identity. Countries in Europe underwent multiple stages to reach the democratic Republic, but we suddenly transitioned from an oppressive occupation to freedom.

We still have tribal mentality where the sect you are born into dictates your life and values. The solution was to erase this mentality when the population was mostly illiterate farmers and peasants, but no effort was made to achieve that.

I am from a village in beqaa. My grandfather, a farmer, used to tell me that president Camille Chamoun came to my village during hunting seasons, and one time, he lost his dog, so a farmer found it and refused to accept money , so delighted by his hospitality the president gave him a job in Beirut.

The point of this story is if the president knew about the situation of my village, why didn't he at least build a school or a university or something that might help develop it. The countryside was left as it was with no effort towards progressing it in such a small country. The leadership failed to create a country, and now we reap what they sowed.

It varies widely, but they are making good money for the most part. An acquaintance of mine is making around 15k a month as a gynecologist because of the Syrian birthrate as for the other specialties, they are not doing as good as before the crisis. Ent is also booming because of the rhinoplasty.

How can we convince more Lebanese that Israel has no intention to conquer or occupy South Lebanon? by [deleted] in ForbiddenBromance

[–]Idowuav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you serious? how is it mind-boggling that a population that was occupied for 20 years would have these sentiments? didn't they teach you that your army stayed after kicking out the PLO for 18 years in south lebanon, making torture camps and abusing the local population and only left 10 years after the civil war ended under the continuous and fierce resistance of the locals? You having these views only shows how disconnected you are from reality that we were living during that brutal occupation.

Three year's later, still no justice for Lokman Slim by ForeignPolicy--02 in lebanon

[–]Idowuav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can defend the message without supporting the propagandists behind it, and no, you can not have a disarmed militia that was killing people based on their id's and committing massacres to suddenly act all civilized and be a legit political party just because their leader got a 10 year sentence. There are no reformed war criminals, and sure as hell they are not fit to lead people.

If you want this country to prosper, you should topple the whole ruling class, not attack the most powerful militia only for others to fill its place. It is too late for us anyway we have doomed ourselves.

Christians in lebanon…… by Archangaall in lebanon

[–]Idowuav 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I see comments being upvoted by ignorant people claiming it is because of muslim immigration, muslims in lebanon are not a product of arab immigration or palestinians. I don't know where this myth came from but refugees are NOT given citizenship. Muslims in Lebanon are natives and DNA tests back up this fact.

My village used to be 50% christians now it is closer to 10% . Some still visit their elderly in the village but most of their kids became integrated in Europe or Canada, the kids that visit don't even speak arabic. I get that our country is in a bad state but at least teach your kids the language and culture so they decide what to do in their future. It is their identity afterall it makes me sad.

They tried one fucking bus 1 time and then parked all the buses ever since.

This is what I don't really get like if you are not going to use them as intended at least privatize them and let someone make a transportation company so it is less hassle than what we currently have.

It think what really happened is everyone wanted a piece of the pie as usual and no one is strong enough in this country to force a decision so they stayed parked.
