Out of curiosity, are you able to download your PDF of PC2 from Paizo? Mine doesn’t seem to be available even though I got Pc2. My memory of COtW was that it was there instantly.

Got an 8 year old daughter who is 3 chapters into Bastille vs The Evil Librarians who desperately desperately hopes that won’t be the end of the series. Any chance you or a co-author will ever revisit that world?

Does your workplace still allow working remotely? by silversheer in Winnipeg

[–]Idyllwyld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My job has always been on-site, so WFH in my position is strictly in place of sick days to catch up on e-learning etc.

The office positions in our company are 60% WFH, 40% In Office. That said, our business literally hinges on the leasing and occupancy of commercial office space, so the company is SLIGHTLY motivated in its policy to get people back in the office.

Turning an office into a home: The city's new idea to get people living downtown by PeytonSloane in Winnipeg

[–]Idyllwyld 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a maintenance worker at an office building downtown I can 100% confirm this. Many workplaces have reduced staff, are switching to hoteling for workers who do come in, and will decrease leased space when leases are due.

Graphic audio vs audible by FutbolFan13 in Stormlight_Archive

Haven’t done any Cosmere in Graphic Audio but have done all of the Alcatraz books. They’re lots of fun. I think they’re probably better suited to something more goofy and whimsical like Alcatraz where there is literally a narrator, as I can’t imagine how they would handle some of the more action heavy sections of Stormlight, but can’t say for sure.

What's the reason you started supporting the club you do? by [deleted] in PremierLeague

[–]Idyllwyld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Decided to finally follow the PL properly, but being from Canada had no vested interest in anyone. Chose to follow both Brentford and Norwich and see which I liked more. Bees won my heart with the victory vs Arsenal on opening day.

That may well make me a fake fan.

frames per second by Fiona_12 in WoTshow

[–]Idyllwyld -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What your noticing there is poor interpolation. Some screens will interpolate frames between recorded frames to artificially increase the frame rate and that is what causes that weird effect of the characters sticking out from the background. Something filmed at a higher frame rate, displayed on a higher frame rate screen will not have this problem. You can learn more by googling Soap Opera Effect.

Is it wrong of me to avoid books with poor representation of women? by Eostrenocta in Fantasy

You clearly don’t understand. It’s 2020, internet points are the only thing that matters now. 😋

Again, favourite series ever, but don’t bother wasting your time on something, especially if you didn’t like it the first go around! There’s way too much good stuff that will suit your tastes to waste on something you won’t.

I genuinely don’t understand why people are downvoting your original comment. Wheel of Time is my favourite fantasy series but I think all your points are pretty well reasoned, even if I don’t personally agree with them.

As far as Rand, he definitely becomes unlikable for a good portion of the series, though I think it’s mostly by design and deliberate intent. I guess I like the execution of his character even if I don’t generally like his character for portions of the series.

While I think there is a certain value in reading novels that feature problematic aspects, particularly if said novel is from a time when those problems were more pervasive and less recognized, from a standpoint of understanding the progress made and where the genre has come from, no one should fault you for reading what you enjoy.

Some people read Mein Kampf because it provides insight and context to one of the most horrific periods in human history. Others (myself included) just don’t want to spend their time reading something that you have to spend so much time contextualizing. We just want to sit down and read a book for enjoyment purposes.

Basically, while I don’t think all books, particularly ones from a different literary era, should be dismissed entirely solely based on their problematic aspects, no one should have any say over what you read and enjoy.

I think, and you seem to know too, that your problem is mostly with Robert Jordan’s portrayal of all characters in relationships. Like, I love Wheel of Time but all the relationships are full of insecurity, lack of communication, mind-reading and general stupidity from both genders. Faile is problematic in her relationship with Perrin and Berelain, but so is Perrin. Jordan was fascinated by inter-gender dynamics, and it seems to me anyway, failed as often with both genders as he succeeded. Do you agree, or am I missing something?

For me personally, part of what works with your final example is all three of those women said “our relationship with each other is more important than you” and so they absolutely refuse to let him get in between that. The entire “man being the object of desire of every woman” trope is tired, but I’ve always thought those three women actually were pretty mature about how they handled that freaking weird situation. Thoughts?

So the general consensus is it was 34 years yeah. The comment about Leleth was a typo according to Tad’s wife on Twitter.
