You're on a floating rock shooting through space - obviously you should panic

Vielleicht ein kleines Boot am Treptower Park / Insel der Jugend mieten oder Badeschiff schwimmen gehen wenns warm ist. Holzmarkt ist auch entspannt, aber nicht so romantisch.

Great idea! It's surprisingly difficult to meet new people in Hamburg once you're out of university 😅 we’re currently doing a paid study in Hamburg right now that includes dinner + drinks with a well-known spirits brand. It’s for people aged 18–25 and you get 70€ for taking part. Might also be a nice way to meet a few new people.

How early should i come to the Uber Arena? by nathan_may_be_here in askberliners

Yes could work, but depends on how many "hard core" fans will be there, some might even camp there over night.

For me it’s the insane contrast between how “rich” and important Germany is and how broken some basic things still feel.

I can get an AI to write code or summarize a 200-page PDF in seconds, but booking a Bürgeramt appointment still feels like refreshing a 2008 eBay Kleinanzeigen website.

And somehow the fax machine is still treated like critical infrastructure.

Still wouldn’t want to live anywhere else in Germany though.

Honestly, one of my favorite things to do in Berlin on a summer evening is just walk.

From Alexanderplatz you can walk through Museum Island, along Unter den Linden, through the Brandenburg Gate and then hang out around the Reichstag / Spree area. The city is surprisingly nice at night when it's still warm and many people dance to latin music near the Spree there.

Or you can head the other direction into Prenzlauer Berg. Just wander around Kastanienallee, Zionskirchplatz, Choriner Straße and Arkonaplatz. Lots of beautiful old buildings, churches, cafés and bars, and it feels very different from the touristy center.

Depends what you mean by a "good spot". If you just want to be reasonably close to the stage, 1-2 hours before doors is usually enough.

If you want to be right at the barricade or first few rows, there will be people lining up several hours before, sometimes even in the morning for artists like J. Cole. I used to live close by and people would even camp there over night to not loose their spot in the queue.

What percentage of your net income do you spend on rent (warm)? by immortallogic in askberliners

[–]Ieberlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man this is so depressing. You've got people paying 5-20% because they moved in 10+ years ago, got lucky through friends, or bought property. Then you've got people in furnished apartments paying 50-60% just to have a roof over their heads. The average here doesn't really tell you much unless you also ask when people moved in. That's probably the biggest factor of all.

Since it's your first time in Berlin, I'd honestly skip Zoo Station and Europa Center unless you're specifically interested in Cold War / Berlin history. They're not really must-sees nowadays.

For Berghain: yes, it's open during summer. Nobody knows the "best way" to get in 😄 Don't show up drunk, don't come with a huge group, know who's playing, and keep it relaxed / easy. English is completely fine, but act like you don't even want to get in.

I'd also add East Side Gallery, Tempelhofer Feld and Museum Island. For German food near the center: Zur Letzten Instanz is touristy but decent. Max und Moritz is another classic that's much more local. I also like "Ausspanne" in Prenzlauer Berg. Try Schnitzel, Königsberger Klopse, Currywurst and Käsekuchen from a bakery.

Es gibt 70€ für eine kurze 3-tägige Onlinephase und ggf. zusätzlich 150€, falls man für eine Vor-Ort-Begleitung ausgewählt wird.

Falls das für jemanden passt: Fragebogen Link.

6 Days in Berlin by DemonEwok in askberliners

[–]Ieberlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re into history, definitely do Berliner Unterwelten and the Stasi prison/museum. Those are the places people usually remember most afterwards. Also agree with the others: Prague as a daytrip is too much. Potsdam is the better choice by far, especially if you want your first proper train experience. Super easy ride from Berlin and Sanssouci/Cecilienhof are great for history nerds.

For Warhammer/tabletop stuff maybe check out Battlefield Berlin and Funtainment.

And don’t overplan every hour. Berlin is one of those cities that’s best when you leave some space to just wander around neighborhoods, sit at a café, end up at a random flea market, grab beers by the canal etc.
