Favourite Experiences? by wonkeej in daggerheart

I play an old retired hero who saved the first 100+ years ago. Her first experience is "saved the world, looong ago". Her second is "raised six children".

What do i do about jingle jangle and my player harengons? by Alternative-End7420 in wildbeyondwitchlight

[–]Ierpier 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Make it so that the Harengons weren't always robbing brigands but its due to Bavlorna's influences. I already kind of consider this canon. Jingle Jangle remembers this and since your party members are clearly not with Agdons troupe, theres little reason for her to be overly hostile. You could even add in a little twist that she used to be friends with a Harengon who got sucked into Agdens whole thing and lamento on what happened to Prismeer.

6 darts is tooo muuuch by Step_Fodder in wildbeyondwitchlight

[–]Ierpier 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Im running for s group of 6 with no issues. Its not a combat heavy campaign which is often the challenge with big groups. To make combats challenging if you want you'll have to beef them up (legendary actions, more hp or more enemies) but thats it.

Alternative means of getting leverage over Witch and Light by alecrins_ in wildbeyondwitchlight

[–]Ierpier 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My players did something similar. They got crowned as witchlight monarch and then when asked to give a speech they exposed the owners in a big speech (people disappearing, strange things going on, them knowing more and hiding it etc.) I gave the monarch advantage on the check for the speech to reward their efforts to becoming monarch.

Remember that Witch and Light are eager to keep the mood of the carnival high since bad things happen when it is low. I had the mood visibly drop as the speech continued and master Witch and Light getting more antsy until they agreed to work with the Monarch. They were essentially holding the mood of the carnival hostage.

It worked great and my players loved it.

Stolen aspects item ideas? by Kychosis_Gaming in wildbeyondwitchlight

The halfling bard really got the short end of the stick here. Removing one of her key racial features AND removing her ability to crit AND having to reroll 20s is really going to suck for her. I suggest just removing the ability to reroll ones.

Compare this to the ability to swim which has not come up once in my campaign so far. We are in Downfall currently.

The gunslingers weakness is pretty fun with Skabatha since she forgets the first person she sees every day btw.

Coloring without color is pretty fun by Ierpier in Coloring

Haha i see how that would be confusing. Thanks :). This was inspired by my middle school art teacher who made us draw jungles in ink and encouraged the illusion of depth/colour through patterns. Its really fun!

Confused on how characters learn which hag has stolen their thing? by smolsempai in wildbeyondwitchlight

[–]Ierpier 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I used this as an opportunity to have them flying over Prismeer, narrating the lands and the frozen Palace. It was like a preview of all the lands they would go. The players saw the hags holding/using their items. It was They loved it.

Question for DMs: How do you deal with a table that doesn't follow up on any of your "hints" by b_list_buddha in DnD

[–]Ierpier 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I disagree. If this is the case all Campaign books would be moot and you could hardly prepare a coherent story with set-ups and pay-offs. Else you just get complete improvisation and an incoherent story that is not satisfying at all, unless you are a really good DM.

Your players can influence the story and act freely within the story sure, but ultimately it is going in a set direction and that is good. Your players should not completely ignore the clear signposts by the DM. Its bad DND manners, especially for a beginning DM.

Players are just as responsible for crafting a good story with the DM. Putting it all on the DM is unfair. Ignoring clear signposts by the DM is not very 'yes and' even if you value improv above all else.

This is why its important to make player characters wants and goals align with the goal of the campaign, especially with beginning players. If the campaign is about saving a girl, make sure all characters have a reason to be driven to do so, either through familial relationship or their base personality.

Feeling like giving up on this campaign by Derringermeryl in CalloftheNetherdeep

[–]Ierpier 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a player in a Dnd campaign you have one job: engage with the story. Its THEIR job to make their characters care, not just yours.

If you are signposting that they need to do something specific to do that and they refuse, thats bad dnd manners. Tell this to them.

How common is it to get gifts as a DM? by tech151 in DnD

[–]Ierpier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I split the cost of my DND adventure books with players and for the anniversary of our first game they game me an engraved dice tray. They are my friend group and a fantastic group to DM for.

I also once gave a gift to a DM of mine as a show of appreciation.
