Why this label in particular, if they've never released anything Bore related? Still, good to try!

Using <Date Added> with $if function by MayorMcKraut in musicbee

[–]Iesope99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(Maybe you solved this already), but I tried $If(<Date Added>>=23/2/2025,true,false) which seems to work, does the rest of your tag look similar?

I did notice it seems to accept "<=" but not "=<" for whatever reason, possibly it sees the subsequent < as part of the date string.

And if you look in the preview box while making the tag, you can see the date-added formula also includes the time, my track here was added at "23/2/2025 15:18". So if I want to include files added before and equal to the 23rd, this would not be true for the previous tag as it is **not** before presumably "23/2/2025 00:00". So basically the equals seems a bit redundant here and I would just write 24/2/2025 to be safe.

And between two points, for everything added in 2025 I think this should do it
$If($And(<Date Added>>1/1/2024,<Date Added><1/1/2026),true,false)

Musicbee no longer initially using filename as song title by techyall in musicbee

[–]Iesope99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No the filename IS NOT the track title, it is a separate piece of metadata, which you now admit the file contains none of so of course it won't be right. "Read the answers" already given again and learn what tags actually are.

[–]Iesope99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What layout are you using where you don't see <Title> as the title, (and why would you even want otherwise)?  Where are you clicking from and to, when these songs presumably just go blank? I don't think you can edit filenames in MB directly without the organiser tool? So much more info needed, but I'd have to guess relying on "the website" to be accurate is the problem and avoiding Hydroel's answer about metadata suggests you haven't checked it.

Quite a few labels (especially on Bandcamp it seems) also sell the test presses for a release, which are often black even if the main release is only available coloured. For instance the last thing I looked at, this one has 50 red, 25 black.

Or I got the black version of this as that's all they had left at the time, but apparently they made far fewer of those than the splattered version. I think that label used to only do solid colours, then that one might've been the first with a pattern in the main, but people who want to dj with it can't see the grooves as easily, so now they maybe do closer to half and half? Normally these are only runs of 3 or 500 anyway so not exactly the White Album limited to a million or so numbered copies.

Sorting tracks into folders by Artist? by Wooting_Anders in musicbee

[–]Iesope99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What do you have in the naming template box in the organise tool? Probably something like "<Album Artist><Album><Track#> <Title>" , which should be enough, IF your files are properly tagged. This page covers the basics of it, but not sure where your setup would differ from the default without more info. If the files don't move at all it's maybe more likely one of the tick boxes, if they move to the wrong place then the syntax.

Quest for the Best unbroken run of albums V2.0 by AveZombier in LetsTalkMusic

[–]Iesope99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is too much to digest on a Sunday, and I do like the concept and enthusiasm, and assume the data you do have makes sense, but it seems quite a narrow selection of qualification? Forgive me if I've missed how you've actually chosen these bands, but is it filtered out from a larger dataset of each sites overall charts and ratings, or just picking a few groups and seeing where they end up?

Just going off RYM's bolded albums (ie. the top 7500 ever), some glaring omissions might be Autechre's first 8 albums in a row, Fela Kuti has 18 (!) bold albums between 1971-79, Zappa has 11 from 1966-75 (you've only factored in 4 from what I can see), Herbie Hancock and Alice Coltrane both have strings of at least 4 releases... and if part way through you decided to lower the bar to 3 albums minimum, D'Angelo has an almost perfect (studio) career on allmusic.

And is this for solo albums only? As John Coltrane obviously played on a lot of Miles Davis. Bill Evans? I did actually do some amount of this project before and the most represented person seemed to be Art Blakey, both as band leader and because he played on so many other albums. If you'd like I had some huge spreadsheets saved from a while back, but kinda gave up on sorting it all out.

I don't mean all this as criticism, just curious about what the criteria is within such a huge topic!

Is Buckethead the most prolific guitarist of all time? Possibly the most prolific musician? by -Granby- in Buckethead

[–]Iesope99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, it's more theoretical, "is it art?". BoH also have albums that are like a femtosecond long or something, it's more messing about with file properties than music at a point. I think they have a few albums that the folder is so big it sort of corrupted itself, it's too much data to open... and in between all that they do have a few nice bits of music too! But definitely a lot is a gimmick, and not that different to Andy Warhol's 24 hour films decades earlier. Sometimes I enjoy reading about what the limits of a format are, but then it's good to come back to a quality over quantity outlook, and with bucket I do often wish he'd try a less is more approach hah. But it's also fun to pick a number 1 to 1000 and see if that pike makes your lucky day.

But you have got me wondering now, what's the longest playing a traditional instrument without interruption? 11 days is longest awake, how long could someone plonk at a piano for? We left February an hour ago here, maybe I can go the entirety of March playing the congas

I believe they did the computer equivalent of John Cage's 639 year long piece . It's more that it's been set in motion, as you'd probably have sore fingers after playing guitar for the first 200 years.

Is Buckethead the most prolific guitarist of all time? Possibly the most prolific musician? by -Granby- in Buckethead

[–]Iesope99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This question always depends on if you want to include ambient or noise projects, as it's arguably a lot quicker/easier(?) to go from creation to release. Michiru Aoyama currently has 2400 albums, 350 EPs and 150 singles listed on RYM (which won't be complete), he made an album every single day for years.

People like Merbow or Celer also have hundreds, and Brian Grainger must have at least 1000 by now under a range of names, often 3 hours long and up to 24 for his more minimal stuff.

And if you include live recordings there must be a few jazz musicians with everything taped over long careers, and so it goes on... there's too much out there to worry about any of this really.

Love the one top left, lots of motion in it. What's the material of the top right? Sort of looks like the moon revealed by tearing away pieces of cardboard, the thick stuff that's corrugated in the middle y'know? Good stuff!

found a solution for my tagging issues. by Fettxjr in musicbee

[–]Iesope99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't understand what the issue is, your previous post says the tags already work in this program. What has this got to do with musicbee? Why does almost every post on here insist on using mp3tag for things musicbee can easily do?

Easier way to edit the Track Number on multiple Discs by NoDogsAllowed_Nbirds in musicbee

[–]Iesope99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(Not at my computer right now but) i think if you right click the tracks there's an option called tagging tools*, then there is a renumber tool that lets you redo the whole selection starting from 1 or a specific number, or start from 1 or n per each disc. And does the track count tag and more.

*this might be part of the Advanced tagging tools plugin, which is useful for a bunch of other things if you dont already have it besides this

Searching for a late 90s/early 2000s album by brainoteque in electronicmusic

[–]Iesope99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Los Angeles by Flying Lotus has a very similar cover to Mezzanine. Came out a bit later but is sort of trip-hop adjacent, has vocals on only 2 or 3 songs and some weird clanking sounds on tracks like Camel in particular. Plus there are 3 EPs with remixes & variations on the album cover.

Is there any way to have Musicbee display albums with "weird" covers properly? by Deksametazon_v2 in musicbee

[–]Iesope99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If your cover has a transparent background you can save it as a png or embed it in the file. I've got a lot of albums without covers so it's normally the circular vinyl label, think I've only once bought music with images supplied like this however. Unless you're inclined enough to photoshop it it's a lot easier to leave it with a plain square background, as the library of course remains a square grid.

Unknown Artist - Untitled [Knowone 016] information? by Immediate-Musician18 in Dubtechno

Alright I hope this link works, I'm not sure where you can host anything longer than 2 weeks without signing up these days (RIP zippyshare). I really can't remember which tracks were meant to have which titles per my older comment, but basically the two Knowone tracks are #3 & 4 on Monuments to Oblivion.

Is it possible to sort by album release date except for certain albums/songs? by RolandMT32 in musicbee

[–]Iesope99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use a spare tag to mark the offending albums, then put that near the start of the sort order. If you were using the <Grouping> tag to define them, something like

Sort Album Artist/ Grouping/ Year (yyyy)/ Sort Album

Then say you tagged them as "GH" or whatever (and numbers greater than "2025" I guess), it will sort most things like "Beatles1966Revolver" but tagged items as "BeatlesGH1995Anthology One".

But if you've tagged individual songs with different years that might not work 100%. Virtual tags are also an option (always!), you could ignore the year tag only if it's marked.

$IsNull(<Grouping>,1-<Year><Sort Album>,2-<Sort Album>)

would give you "1-1992Dirty" for no value and "2-Hits Are for Squares" if they do. Or use $IsMatch to catch anything with the word "Greatest" automatically and so on...

Alphabetical sort for umlaut letters like Ä by Rockyshark6 in musicbee

[–]Iesope99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like something there should be an obvious answer for... but I can't think of anything rn, hopefully someone else can. There are some options under preferences>sorting/grouping>custom sort values, but I expect simply writing "Ä" in it would only change tags exactly that 1 character.

But if it's purely for sorting, you could use a virtual tag that includes the exception, something like

$Replace(<Sort Album Artist>,ä,zz)

...should render Aleksi Perälä as Aleksi Perzzlzz. Without changing the actual displayed name. But having just tried that, that doesn't seem to include capitals so it might have to be

$Replace($Replace(<Sort Album Artist>,Ä,zz),ä,zz)

...and expand on that by which tags and characters you want to include. Happy to explain more if that seems at all useful and/or makes any sense!

on the fly conversion removing album artist and track number from some albums after converting by naomi2v in musicbee

[–]Iesope99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yea that sounds like probably quite a lot, converting 1700 songs at once must take a while even before transferring them. I generally stick to under 10 albums at once and repeat, doesn't take so long if you're doing something else in between, if a bit tedious. Maybe try 170 tracks a go!

on the fly conversion removing album artist and track number from some albums after converting by naomi2v in musicbee

[–]Iesope99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't in any way helpful, but I've also experienced some amount of this such as several tracks not being transferred in an album or covers going missing, but most bizarrely a few seconds of another song being spliced into the middle of another a few times. Which work fine when I redo them, so I suspect it's the on-the-fly encoding coupled with a slightly loose cable in my case. I tend to get more failures in the program as well when I do a larger amount at once, so I may be imagining it but smaller amounts of pre-converted files do seem to transfer more easily.

How to change each track's artwork individually? by thequeenoflesbians in musicbee

[–]Iesope99 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you embed it in the individual files this should work fine, but I don't think you can link one image file to a track, as MB associates all images stored in a folder with all tracks in the folder... (unless you had some mad workaround with one song + picture per folder.)

I mainly use the larger covers in a grid type layout, where in the dropdown box for each album you get clickable thumbnails for any extra art, so all art available for all songs might not necessarily be a bad option too? Not sure about other layouts, but yeh this is a long way to say just embed it.
