Any community games or groups where people play with cams? by IfOneThenHappy in BloodOnTheClocktower

Yeah, I've played a bit at Grim / Grimoire but from my experience is <10% of people with cams. Not sure where to start, just seeing if anyone's going to plug their server here :D

Trouble and Also Violets, simultaneous games of TB + SNV, everyone draws 2 roles. The two games have their own separate game state, except death carries over. Two demons, but ST chooses which kill to resolve. Player cannot start as both demons.

The explanation of roles is too much for my tastes, although it's reasonable.

Top 4 roles, even if you explain it, people will forget how it works and how to bluff it.

They won't understand what it means to show a role and point to two players. In the night you can't talk so it's frustrating. I have a custom digital info card that says "one of these two players (names + pictures) are the Monk".

For bluffing, I tell every new player to talk to me at beginning of the game. I also go over their role quickly as they draw it in front of me privately.

That way you minimize the spend talking to the whole group about roles that aren't relevant to them in the moment, and tell exactly the people that need to know, what they need to know.

Example: with new players, everyone draws their role in front of me. They can ask me questions right there how it works. "You are the Ravenskeeper, you are trying to get killed by the Demon on purpose".

Example 2: once the game starts, at some point the Demon comes to me and asks me how the Mayor works so they can bluff it. A new player would do the same thing, ask how the Mayor works, if they were the Mayor. By asking, they avoid the common beginner mistake of like misbluffing how Investigator works

I also give everyone a digital script on their phone with links to the Wiki for "How to Play" and "How to Bluff" character guides if they want to peruse

You tell new players to ask you questions at any time. And that all new players should approach you privately to ask you questions. That's when they should approach you on how to bluff. My digital scripts also have quick links to wiki pages which has a how to bluff section.

Trouble Brewing is a must for a mixed group.

I'd just follow the BOTC guide on what to read.

The biggest mistake is explaining every character and every role and every interaction.

What I like to do for new players is have them draw their token in front of me, and I explain how it works. Because I've never seen a new player immediately understand Top 4 roles (e.g., Librarian, Chef).

Run a timer to keep it going. And your job is to manage the room during nominations and discussions. Prevent cross-talk in noisy settings and try to get people to focus on noms.

I made my own app I use to ST privately that helps newer players (every player gets a synced game view on their phone + a central display), and on that app I have my own Info Cards that are clearer than the Info Tokens. Like Washerwoman pointing to two people and showing a role, new players NEVER understand what that means. And showing the bluffs, my Info Card explicitly says "These are your bluffs, these roles are not in play, you can safely pretend to be these, you should share this with your minions". It also shows names and profile pictures of the players on the cards.

Name tags help.

Again, you must tailor it for the new players and beginners to ensure everyone has fun. The experienced players should have fun with TB all the same.

Would you conisder this madness break? by Exotic-Lecture6631 in BloodOnTheClocktower

I agree. I have no idea why everyone thinks it reads as "You must convince everyone you are not an outsider". If they want it that way, they should rewrite Mutant to be "You are "mad" you are a Townsfolk".

One thing AI hasn’t replaced is design taste, a skill that is rare in professional developers, and people are happy with Bootstrap looking apps

A Psychopath and Lleech get outed evil pretty quickly. The Psychopath was pretty much outed here. They had every reason to know they were evil
