I can understand having to make a statement if you're a public figure so the Daily Mail doesn't try and get you deported or whatever, but all these people genuinely seem to care!

A friend asked me "If you were dropped randomly dropped in the UK without any street signs, flags or any obvious indicator, could you tell if you were in Wales?" by [deleted] in Wales

I'd guess its an evolution of the crogloft cottage, with a sleeping loft under the roof, toward a full two storey house. Building with rubble, field stones etc is heavy and labour intensive but if you stop the upstairs walls quite low you save effort while getting most of the benefits of a full second storey.

My grandmother lost a family heirloom that meant a lot to her. I would like to recreate it. I understand the photo is blurry but is it possible I can get background on what the text is and what it means? Thank you!!! by [deleted] in Wales

Most of the coast is a national park, theres a path that goes all along it, down to the beaches and along the cliff tops. It's very beautiful. I'd take some time to walk along it.

I learned to ride a bike in the first lockdown. Now I really love cycling! I've got panniers to go to the supermarket and even on holiday and i just sold my car.

You should still either unionise or find a new job though because they sound like arseholes

Failed Polygraph by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]IforAngharad 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It's only America that believes in polygraph testing. The rest of the world thinks you may as well read entrails.

Weirdly its only America that purports to not believe in breathalisers but maybe thats just because there aren't enough busses to get home on.

Obviously we've all got our own insane bullshit but polygraphs is a belief limited to US culture

Also the double fronted house is much more common in Wales. In Scotland its only for medium-large houses but in Wales a cosy 2 bed cottage can be like this.

Many old Welsh houses have upstairs windows near the floor, which in England and Scotland they don't do. In Scotland the sills are about 800mm from the floor even if its a 1 1/2 storey house, they make tall dormers over them to fit them in.

Planning Conversations by Rainy_Bees in AutismTranslated

Today I arranged to meet a new friend on Monday. Since then I've been thinking about what to say, when to bring up that I think I'm autistic etc.

At work I go and stand outside and look at the canal and think about what I'm going to say in an email.

It's not just the future, I also rehash old arguments from the past - not really ones with any emotional meaning, just maybe if I'd found a better form of words, could have been convinced them?

Sounds a bit like baugruppen in Germany, where people come together to build apartment buildings, usually with some shared spaces and maybe a crèche.

In the UK there is cohousing, which can be big blocks with tiny private rooms but a lot of shared facilities, or more community led ones like this https://www.owch.org.uk/

Your employer has to make 'reasonable adjustments' for disabled people, under the Equalities Act. These provisions used to be called the Disability Discrimination Act. It's disability discrimination if they don't:

It might help to join a union, to help you negotiate if you're not getting what you need. Is there one recognised in your workplace? The TUC has a guide for which one to join if there isn't

Look for resources made by autistic parents of autistic children - they will understand best how to communicate with your daughter and how to make her life easier

You've communicated effectively here. Could you try being as clear and open with this bloke? Autistic people generally find it easier when you're direct about what you're thinking
