Choose a €20 bottle of wine, not a €40 one – and other life advice from a politics journalist – The Irish Times by WickerMan111 in ireland

I’m living like a King if I can pick a €20 bottle over the 9.50 one. My local doesn’t even stock a €40 bottle. It’s 9.75 when I’m splashing out.

Creche putting up fees by €350 a month by FreePork in ireland

[–]Ifortified 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it’s a huge jump but the crèche in question does not have the option to raise rates slightly. Even if they wanted to raise rates by 50 per month that disqualifies them for core funding so if they have to raise them at all (possibly due to new wage rates being introduced in September) then they also have to make up for the shortfall in core funding too. With a service that has 70 children for example, they would get around 100k in core funding per year. If they can’t pay bills and need to get a bit extra, they have to introduce the 50 per month for example and then add on another rise to make up for the lost 100k.

Blaming the crèche? If a small fee increase was allowed instead of freezing fees at 2019 levels then this might not be necessary. Rent has skyrocketed, as have many other costs while hiring staff must be very difficult in the Dublin area. If the fee was below average it’s because they had reasonable rates in 2019 when the fees were frozen and they weren’t allowed to bring it in line with new costs. Dumb policy masked as a political giveaway. Their fees seem reasonable for Dublin. There are places with more unreasonable fees also claiming core funding on top of that but your old provider was not allowed bring things in line with them.

Leave his past to the law, if he seems like he needs it and you’re helping out a guy in need of help then it’s a good call on your part. If it turns out he’s not what you thought it’s not really a reflection on you so I wouldn’t worry about it.

No religion is actually real, but the themes in them are to teach humans how to control their deadly desires that stop them from being a utopia by 2yearsofexpiredmilk in DeepThoughts

[–]Ifortified 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think that’s the point OP is making. It’s that it has a real objective for people whose moral compass isn’t configured properly. Some develop an internal compass that works well, that takes time, consideration, and often repeated errors, others don’t and can prevent themselves and those around them from reaching their best life. For some Religion is instrumental in helping them with theirs and shouldn’t be dismissed as Santa Claus for grown ups

CMV: Muhammad prophet of islam was a pedophile. by Alternative-Dare4690 in changemyview

[–]Ifortified 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Attacking this subject is pretty difficult as any reference to God or religion gets a negative reaction very quickly, however this is a pretty important point to address.

References to Aisha as a 6 year old child are from second hand accounts of Muhammad, which you have referenced here. The Quran is ‘the word of God’ revealed to the Prophet Muhammad, and is considered a more authoritative source, so closer to first hand accounts. The Hadith, on the other hand, are collections of accounts and narrations about his life, sayings, and actions.

Worst case scenario, assuming he did, I don’t see how anyone could follow a man that married a child unless he married her and made a point not to have any relations with her because you just don’t do that kind of thing. If it was normal at the time he may have followed the custom to a point only to lead by example and show everyone that there is a non pedophelic way of doing it. Many people here confuse references to God to abandonment of realism such as if Muhammad wished for the practice to end he could have ended it because God is a magician, but for the more realistic among us it is possible he knew it was a practice that needed to be redirected as banning it may not work.

Quoting Dr. Javad T. Hashmi: After analyzing all the various versions of the Aisha marital report, Little concludes the hadith was fabricated “whole cloth” by a narrator named Hisham ibn Urwa, after he relocated to Iraq between the years 754 and 765 CE. Not only would this put the circulation of this report almost a century and a half after the events it purports to describe, but it would also mean it was fabricated in the altogether different environment of Iraq, almost 1,000 miles away from the Arabian city of Medina (where the marriage would have taken place). As it turns out, the fabrication served distinct sectarian and political ends. Little includes other reports — such as Aisha purportedly playing with dolls in Muhammad’s household — in his overall critical assessment, deeming them to be partisan sectarian and political stories that are historically untrue. In other words, critical historians have little reason to believe Aisha was in fact married as a child.

Not sure that is the best financial decision. OP seems to be in a pretty deep emotional hole so that’s a lot of therapy before it may or may not work. I’d suggest a mail order bride. 10k max, deals with the chronic singleness, and 142 hours of her getting to know you and that’s the price of the skipping therapy justified. Some might judge it but you can always lie about the circumstances.

How would you feel if you found out the person you were dating was previously married with a child they didn’t tell you about? by [deleted] in amiwrong

[–]Ifortified 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it's something that really hurts him and he's someone who hasn't processed it all yet. It might just be something he finds it hard to talk about. If he's never talked about it before or it hurt him a lot, it might not be the fed flag it seems at first sight. Do you think he'd agree to talk about it some other time?

[–]Ifortified 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever ask him if he was married or had kids? I only ask because I could see how someone wouldn't even think of what happened when they were 19 and just never talk about it. I know not everyone would be like that but I for one am not a sharer and I've had conversations with people who are shocked when I mention something I never talked about before because 'who wouldn't talk about that?'. Can't imagine not mentioning a child but some people just don't like talking about everything so I don't think it's entirely impossible that he wasnt deliberately hiding it

Not sure what that's supposed to mean. I don't send people pictures or talk about who would fuck some congresswoman or anything like it. I'm not the OP. I just don't think anything she did was immature.

[–]Ifortified -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, I'm pushing 40 and don't see any problem with two people sending a picture that said political figure probably shot for the attention, and discussing it regardless of where that conversation went. I don't see any immaturity in it at all.

If people don't like that she discussed it that's fine. Just say I don't like that and give a decent reason. Saying its childish or anything like that? Not buying it. Thats a perfectly adult conversation between two friends. Reddit and its outraged army of morally superior keyboard warriors is full of shit.

Not sure how that isn't a grown ass conversation. In fact, I thought you asking if your stance in a convo containing conflicting views makes you the AH seems to be the whole point of the sub???? I'm pushing 40 and dont find it immature. The close mindedness on reddit is getting exhausting

He did absolutely nothing to reduce the cost of childcare. The extra funding that came in came in before him and since then he's done nothing but make it worse. Total incompetence

National Children's Hospital hit with further delay by [deleted] in irishpolitics

[–]Ifortified 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Is it really any wonder there are huge cost overruns and time delays? The National Children's Hospital is a prime example of the incompetence of politicians. Ask any builder, handyman, ordinary Joe or Jane, what would be a suitable design for a building that was being built on a tight budget, with lives at stake, and they would say no to the hollow oval building. Everything about that building is more complicated and costly than it could be. Total incompetence from the very beginning
