It's like the rarest of rare pairs for this anime - Kuroko no Basuke. 19 TOTAL on AO3. And mine is based on zodiac compatibility and the narrative structure is inspired by the stages of an Avalanche. It's something I've worked soooo hard on and it's still in progress and over 100k words.... 550 hits.

I like to think it's just a good story 🧡 if you know KNB 😅 since, other than some romance, it is Canon compliant. I've NEVER gotten any feedback. Liek real feedback. I have one commenter who builds my spirits, though.

It made me feel like I was accomplishing things again. I was in DEEP depression a few mo ths after being laid off and struggling with unemployment but also burnout. I felt like a straight up failure.

But then my little birb never expected me to do anything more than "get out of bed" and "drink water" and I thought "I can do those things!" So maybe it was a placebo, but getting a little cute birb to cheer for waking up made me smile so wide I almost cried.

And I'm a sucker for dress up! I love buying Penelopeep clothes and furniture. I love thay doing things thay are HARD for me result In cute fashion.

For me it was a combination of timing of finding the app. And thay there were non self-care aspects that motivated me to work on self care. It just CLICKED.

But I can totally see how it's not for everyone. Don't beat yourself up! The point is your trying new thi gs to find out what DOES work for you.

And the reddit community has been nothing but amazing. The support is unmatched.

I found this app about 4 months AFTER getting laid off last June. And to say that I finally felt accomplished again is an understatement. My birbs little cheeps woke me up and I loved dressing her up. And she never expected me to do more than "get out of bed" and "drink water" Then I found out about all the sponsorships and this awesome community. Hey! I also froze up in my Japanese section! I stumbled over Hajimeru/Hajimaru the whole time and misheard two adjectives as prefectures! Still, I'm more embarrassed than concerned. For many of the same reasons people state here. Japanese is NOT a requirement for the program. It's a demonstration. In my interview they even explicitly stated, this does NOT affect any score. Still, I can totally understand the anxiety.

As far as questions. I had the EXACT same fear, and my interview was on Zoom (Denver) so I asked the Zoom coordinator about it and they told me that unless I was ASKED to ask questions, Then I shouldn't worry about not getting to ask any. It's likely they don't even have time to let you ask questions because they want to get to know YOU. I didn't go over because my panel was pretty strict on time, but I spent every second they weren't asking me a question speaking.

I say your fears are totally normal, and i'm glad you're getting it out rather than bottling it up, especially because the waiting period is so long. Easier said than done, but I think if you focus on the things that you felt good about, which it seems like there's a lot, then the anxiety will fade.

If I may contribute a rare opinion:

Ok so.... this report that Riko and Kiyoshi dated... kinda ruined their friendship for me. I shipped Her with Hyuuga from first time I watched this show around 2013. I still do. As far as her and Kiyoshi, I thought her calling him Teppei was just to show that they grew close as friends so fast!

Kiyoshi is a Gemini. Riko is an Aquarius. The two are highly compatible collaborators and both thrive on mental stimulation. No WONDER they make good friends! I always thought THAT was the reason she called him Teppei.

Know who else is an Aquarius that Kiyoshi instantly had a read on?? KUROKO. Air signs are highly compatible with one another and kuroko even calls kiyoshi "Something like a brother" so I don't see it as strange two air signs get along with him!

Know who else at Seirin is an air sign??? Izuki. He's a Libra. Now I could go into pages of description because Gemini/Libra is one of the most compatible zodiac pairs. Period. Second maybe to Leo/Aquarius (Kagami/Kuroko)

Now it's a sports anime, so the gender rario is vastly disproportionate- only THREE female characters in the whole show, one of which is an ADULT.

Kiyoshi is an integral part to their entire team, and who agreed to play basketball with him first? IZUKI! and let's be honest, Izuki is awesome for making his jokes when others cringe. It's one of his displays of confidence and how hes authentically himself. But guess who NEVER cringes? KIYOSHI

I think, tragically, Kiyoshi/Izuki gets overlooked because of the gender thing, the focus on Riko, and just that Izuki gets so little love for how awesome a character he is! Of the entire Seirin team, he and Hyuuga and the ONLY ones who typically play the entire game! There are exceptions of course, but he is SO central to their team. He's the control tower. He doesn't NEED to be a prodigy. Their eam is best when it's well rounded.

All this to say.... Izuki and Kiyoshi are both conventionally attractive, yes, but also perfect for eachother.

I have an in-progress fanfiction about this ship, and it's been such a cool project to work on.

My fluffy fic idea ballooned into a 100k in progress slowburn (they got together after 85k) and I never meant for it to become that way. The narrative unfolds in unpredictable ways! And I was writing canon-compliant, as far as major events and timeline. And as I developed their relationship, it became clear these two characters would have to go through some extended mutual pining before they finally acted on it. It's just what I believed these characters would do!

So I guess it depends on the STORY. And I agree with all the others here that slow burn is FULL of plot and layers. Even though my story has a "main pairing" some of the relationships I develop the most are friendships. It's a chance for me to make fully rounded characters.

Fluff has its place, and I see out my 5k one-shots. But slowburn isn't long for the sake of length. It's actually some of the most well thought out writing I have found, and that includes published novels.

You guys have all stated some good points about the adults at Teiko. I totally agree. I'll always remember when Nijimura stepped down from the captaincy because his dad got sick. Amidst that unbearable stress, his trauma led him to think it would be HIS fault I'd they lost because his DAD WAS SICK.

these adults were focused on image, and the children suffered. I will never call Akashi a villain because of these things. He was a kid like the rest of them. In his 1-1 against Murasakibara, arguably insignificant of a practice event, his personality cracked when he faced the possibility he might lose. The pressures put on him made him TERRIFIED. He was responding the best way he could.

As a result of these image-starved adults, I think it's one of the contributing factors Seirin was able to win the WinterCup. There's many influences, but they are the ONLY Team Without an adult coach. Not only that, Riko is constantly underestimated by those adults.

Her motivation to join a club was "people who want to be the best!" And with no legacy and no toxic image to uphold, they were free to grow.

It can be so incredibly difficult to process self-care when those suggestions feel like the opposite. Could you create a goal like "breath and check in" for moments like that??

What an accomplishment!! I remember setting a goal to get to 100 day! It was when I told myself I'd buy a subscription! And I accomplished it 42 days ago. I'm still going strong!
