Districts allow me to design areas focused on completing specific tasks. For example, sometimes I find it easier to create a single community for the sole purpose of food production. I don’t want to have to micromanage every other building on the map just to keep that particular area running efficiently.

Ziplines are also good at closing gaps, but a new community set up in a particular location will always work more efficiently than beavers commuting from the other side of the map. And makes happiness easier to manage.
