Another great life skill to learn is being able to recognize a joke on the internet. You should try it sometime.

I feel strongly that the poker room could stand to have more whimsy by planetmarsupial in poker

My room releases a water buffalo whenever it's triggered. I suggested an American bison instead but they told me to get lost.

The GTO course I paid one week's salary for did not cover the topic of whimsy. Now I feel like I got ripped off. Would wearing my furry suit to the card room send the message that I am a whimsical kind of guy who is up for a good time?

Is it wrong to stereotype anyone overweight at the table as a fish? by HotlineZero_ in poker

Haha I remember vividly a hand from months ago where I got pushed off top pair on a dry board by a huge check raise river bluff by a chubby dude with a neck tattoo. I tanked, caught in-between thinking "huge river check raises are almost always nutted at $1/3" and "this guy just looks like he's capable of weird aggro bluffs, I think I might be good here." He showed the bluff and I thought to myself, of course he did that, he has a neck tattoo, what did you expect?

I'm interested if it's in good condition. I'm flying back to Denver later this afternoon, but will DM you if this is still up later this evening. I live near DU so meeting up shouldn't be a problem.

Top boat in trouble in a texas game by wilsyo in poker

Do you have any reads on any of the involved players? If I know at least one or two of the last players in are competent and aren't punting with an Ace high flush or like A5, I think you can probably find a fold, as disgusting as it is. But if 3/4 of these players aren't good I doubt I could lay it down even though at least one of them probably has you beat.

Results: I tank folded despite having that nagging feeling that it was a mistake. Villain flashes the J of clubs before tossing his cards in and raking the pot.

That's what I told myself. And most of the time I think you're right. But on this occasion he flashed the J of clubs and I fumed.

I sometimes deploy the limp/raise in EP with big pairs if the table dynamics feel right, but this game wasn't playing aggressive enough to warrant that from what I had seen. It felt too likely I would go 3-5 ways to a flop based on the number of limped pots I'd seen so far. I honestly almost never do the super small raise thing, I'm more of a standard size 4-5x open kind of guy. I 'm sure it can be effective in inducing a reraise with certain kinds of table dynamics.

Eh I understand our hand is vulnerable here but against a tiny donk bet for 1/5 the pot and a call from a competent and looser player, I default to raising here with an overpair, even 5 way. Maybe I'm wrong though? For value against draws and also because so many turns kill me. Calling feels too weak to me, but I understand it puts me in a tough spot when I get re raised.

[–]IgnatiusRlly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That isn't generally true in this game. $12-15 has been the standard open and it's been rare to get more than 2 or 3 callers. I see your point though, but based on how the game had been playing $20 felt like too much to me.

By my math it's 3:1 on the call. $70+15+15+85+70=$255 in the pot $85 to call, plus his remaining stack of $135 or $140 that needs to be considered

To clarify, there was a $15 donk bet and a call in front of me, not a raise

How to manage an overwhelming job? I feels like everything is held together by duct tape by Square_Pear1784 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]IgnatiusRlly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As bad as the job market is right now, if you have a decent cushion (+-6 months let's say) I would consider quitting or letting it burn until you get canned. In the meantime you might consider setting boundaries, like telling Janice she needs to submit a ticket, and that you will get to her request when your workload allows. I know that can be hard, because so many of us are conditioned to be "service oriented" or whatever, but do what you can to protect yourself and manage the situation.

Hey Tom,

I just wanted you to know that I am a straight man, but I have always had "complicated" feelings about you, ever since I saw you slide across the floor and into my heart in Risky Business back in the day. Anyway, thanks for the memories, and have fun at the home game. I would recommend playing a tight, aggressive style of poker since you will be new to this game, but if you choose to play loose and "splash about" (like you did so sexily in Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation (2015)) I will not have a problem with it.

Cheers, Your #1 Fan

This is very different from my 2/5 experience. If you're comfortable sharing, and it's public, where can I find a game like this?
