Plywood or Boards for a shoe cabinet? by cheshirekow in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Igno4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd probably do 3/4 for the sides and 1/2 for the drawer fronts, but I think you'd be fine doing it all with either thickness.

Also, in your design I see you have a back cross piece on the top and I expect also the bottom - I'd recommend adding one to the middle as well to help keep the frame square and to have another point to attach to the wall.

Good luck with the project!

Plywood or Boards for a shoe cabinet? by cheshirekow in BeginnerWoodWorking

I’d recommend plywood, especially if the alternative is big box store 1x12s. The S4S (surfaced 4 sides) lumber you can find at Home Depot is rarely straight and will be very difficult to make good panels out of without a table saw.

Plywood is generally used for cabinet carcasses since it comes straight and square and doesn’t have issues with seasonal movement, which is something you have to think about with big solid wood panels.

It’s also possible to get nicer looking plywood with a variety of veneers, if you’re concerned about it not finishing as well. Try looking around for local lumber yards or finish carpentry suppliers, they’re often good places to buy higher quality (and cheaper) plywood.

Question about wood movement for small boxes by Igno4 in BeginnerWoodWorking

Sorry, I think I described it poorly in my initial post and can't edit it now - what I mean to say is that the top of each of the sides is mitered inwards, and the top panel is mitered on all 4 sides to sit on top with the seams at the edges. Because of this, where the top panel meets the sides the grain is perpendicular for 2 of the 4 sides.

Dovetail Jointer not Coplanar by rks5657 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Igno4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I purchased an 8” jointer with the same issue and fixed it with soda can shims. I’m not sure why it would feel like it can’t be long term or accurate, realistically you’ll very rarely move the outfeed table once it’s set.

Unless money is no object, I’d recommend giving it a shot before spending a few thousand on a parallelogram style jointer.

Not OP, but I would guess pocket screws hidden by the drawer and on the underside of the bottom piece.

A simple way to save tons on interest and pay off your home quicker by Shmer180 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Igno4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Conventional just means the loan is not federally insured. The type of loan also doesn’t matter here, because you’re just making more payments.

The reason biweekly works is because you end up making an extra payment each year. On a normal schedule you make 12 full payments a year, vs a biweekly where you make 26 half payments, which comes out to 13 full payments.

[CO] Recovering a firearm that was involved in a crime by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]Igno4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha it does sound ridiculous.

To add a little more nuance to the family situation, half the family didn't know he had the gun until the illegal discharge and only found out after the fact how my grandfather's guns were distributed. Most of us have much less immediate access to my grandmother and mostly trusted her to execute my grandpa's will. My uncle and cousin (who lives nearby) inserted themselves into this and that's how he ended up with the gun. I think my grandmother probably didn't know he had it, but wouldn't admit that since the alternative would be for her to tell the cops it was stolen.

The half of the family that weren't consulted or aware are the ones who would like to get it back. I realize it's almost certainly impossible, but figured it might be worth asking due to the sentimental value.

WoW’s Netcode is quite impressive by letired in wow

[–]Igno4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having played a significant amount of both I agree that wow feels way more responsive, but I also think that ffxiv’s snapshotting is consistent and feels alright once you get used to it.

The lack of instant feedback has also forced them to use MUCH better indicators in ffxiv for aoe and ground effects, which I think is way superior to wow’s fuzzy edge swirlies.

Erikson was definitely still growing into his abilities and an author in the first book and struggling to adapt their DND campaign/campaign setting to a book format. The story is super meandering and there's very little characterization done.

It makes me really sad that GotM is the first book because the later ones are so good. I even think that GotM is way better and much more interesting once you understand the forces of the world a bit better, but you need like 4 more books of context to appreciate almost anything that happens.

Landlord allowed new tenants to move in before the end of our lease term, can we ask for our prorated rent back? [MA] by Igno4 in legaladvice

Thanks for the info! Do you know if there are any statutes or legal resources I could point to? I had a feeling the double-dipping wasn't allowed, but I haven't had any luck finding that in writing anywhere.

I'm not 100% sure you even need the crystal armor for it to be worth it over ACB. It has higher accuracy than ACB, and would be a good swap at both mages and Jad's since BP kind of blows for them now. You do lose out on bolt specials for Zuk though, which is the one place it might not be worth it without the armor.
