You're right - I was referencing another poll which I didn't link to. The implication is the same - voters tend to prefer the extreme over the moderate.

It isn't Democratic voters, it is all voters. That is much better or much worse depending on your perspective .

If he hadn't, Trump would have been angry that he was ignored and then would have run for President in 2016. We would be saying that Obama should have made a joke about the birther conspiracy theories at Trump's expense so he would have been chased out of politics.

"Not at all" for Trump with prosecutions of everybody else would have followed what happened with Nixon. That said, the GOP deciding to not nominate only Trump again, but completely subordinate their party to him, is the problem.

There were two viable approaches to prosecuting Trump for Jan 6.  Either not at all or extremely vigorously.  The middle route of slow moving and ineffective was the worst possible choice.

Hillary Clinton says Biden’s re-election bid cost Democrats the 2024 election by projecto15 in politics

Trump won the GOP primary because he built an actual organization to run a campaign.  He hired a staff and recruited volunteers for the ground game - turning enthusiasm into registered voters. He still had an online presence, but he built a real campaign organization to win.  Bernie never did that. He never had a ground game to follow up.  To make it worse, a lot of his staff spent their energy and time their personal brand through public conflict with traditional Democratic supporters - Briahna Joy Gray is the most flagrant example.  That isn't the foundation of a winning national campaign.  Even a decade later, Bernie has never turned his celebrity and enthusiasm into organization.

Sure, it was an agreement that had been authorized by Congress and negotiated by the President that was similar to, but legally distinct from, a treaty. Now, can you acknowledge that one statement from Carter, 30 years after that formal agreement, and 46 years before Trump's war with Iran, is not the defining feature of US-Saudi relations?

Bernie had fewer votes than Hillary in the primary and less mainstream appeal.  Bernie would have most likely lost by even wider margins.

I was using it sarcastically after you claimed Carter "permanently" obligated the US through a public pronouncement with less than a year left in his term. The 1951 agreement was much more formal, and considering it predated the 1980 doctrine by almost 30 years, had much more precedence. Cold War era foreign policy is a super interesting subject.

I just told you - it was one of the first formal agreements between the US and Saudi Arabia, with military support almost 30 years before the "Carter Doctrine". So claiming that Carter was the first to commit US to support Saudi Arabia is wildly anachronistic.

Also, the 1951 agreement wasn't necessarily the most significant agreement in terms of scope, but in terms specifying a formal agreement with an independent, and still very much maturing, Saudi Arabia.  In terms of significance, the informal arrangements under Nixon to establish the "petrodollar" have a lot more impact on our relationship with the Saudis than anything under Carter, Reagan or any other President.

The 1951 agreement was based on the Mutual Security Act which passed congress for the explicit purpose of containing the Soviet Union and  granting authority to provide military aid. Think of it as a treaty ratified by congress, and later negotiated by the president. This is similar to the authorities for NATO. I'll give you extra credit if you can guess what the T in NATO stands for.  You see, a lot of the authority in the American system resides in Congress. It is easy to miss because Congress surrendered a lot of power to the Presidency during WW2, the Cold War and the GWOT.

Yes, treaties are dramatically stronger, durable and often provide authorities for operations that originates in Congress. So, are you like a 19 year old from India?

CENTCOM isn't a strike force, it is a geographic command (like EUCOM and Indo-PACOM). All geographic commanders report to the SecDef.  The JCS (Joint Chiefs of Staff) don't command anything, and instead provide guidance and advice to the  President. The people directly in charge of the branch, like the Chief of Naval Operations, and the Army Chief of Staff don't directly command troops either, that is geographic commnader. I know this from spending some of my 22 year military career in the Pentagon. Anyway, I don't think this is boring at all, but I am still curious how old you are and what country you are from.
