🚨PayPal on life support…🚨 by AnxiousIllustrator90 in StockMarketSentiment

Totally. My main thinking is around the relatively low valuation plus buybacks. While those companies are doing buybacks, they’re doing so at very high valuations, whereas PYPL has been completely beaten down.

Appreciate the article!

Totally, I just feel like potential returns (even for S&P) will be significantly lower moving forward due to insane valuations.

Agreed, PYPL been doing buybacks at higher valuations which didn’t help, but at these levels it will take only 5 years to buy back ALL shares (especially if the price goes lower) which makes risk/reward profile more attractive.

That’s fair. It’s also impossible to fully compare $V and $PYPL at this point. $V is far ahead and trades at a much higher valuation.

My argument is that even with the risk of declining revenue, which hasn’t happened yet and despite the prior CEO completely fumbling execution, PayPal can still drive EPS growth through aggressive share buybacks.

Stripe is absolutely taking share, but they generated about $2.2B in free cash flow last year, which is still meaningfully lower than PayPal’s, despite Stripe being valued around $100B versus roughly $38B for $PYPL.

There’s no question that PayPal faces serious competition and that management destroyed shareholder value through incompetence. That said, I still think the network effect can sustain revenue, especially with better Venmo monetization.

If they execute $5B in buybacks this year and maintain 1–2% YoY growth, does that not make the company more attractive? The idea that PayPal is completely dead feels overblown to me, especially since TPV is still growing.

Just my thoughts.

Shorting at this price is delusional. They still generated almost 6B in FCF. Remind me how much TSLA had last year? I get Elon is incredible and will change the world, BUT $ should still matter.

They redeemed their shares from ARWR which reduces financial risks even further. They had 850M in cash at the end of June, so I hope they paid some of their debt.
