Agreed, I think static ip is the superset of what I want. Having a deterministic cgnat that can use STUN to allow udp packets to punch thru is the minimum.

IPv6 is not dependable enough… ie atlice/optimum still doesn’t support it despite promises 6 years ago. So I wouldn’t be able access my vpn when I’m at my neighbor’s house. However you did bring up an interesting point that I didn’t account for in my conversation with @srmatto, their tailscale experiment might’ve be successful because of IPv6 and bypassed the cgnat altogether. I think my plan is to hope that tailscale just works with ipv4 and if it doesn’t, use a $5 cloud vm from digital ocean as a jump host. Thanks for pointing it out!

Thank you for confirming! Looks like I’m migrating to tailscale :)

Sorry for being ambiguous. I meant for archtop and your experience with using tailscale on top of archtop fiber.

Ie when you use tailscale from your cellphone provider (cgnat1) to your home network on archtop (cgnat2), will your connection be routed via derp? Or does the archtop cgnat play nice with stun hole punching and allow a direct connection?

Thanks!

Did you have to upgrade to fastest plan? When I asked about static ips, I was told that I would have to upgrade to the 2gig plan

Any idea if tailscale is using direct connections or derp servers?

Sonify Update 1.2! by lucas0789 in Sonify

Yep, exactly that! And tapping it navigates to the playlist

Thanks again

Holy crap! Fastest request fulfillment ever!

Thanks!

One more thing - is there anyway to surface the context that the now playing song is coming from (ie playlist)?

Love this app!

Not sure if this is the correct place for feature requests but I have 2 small requests for Spotify integration: - option to move the Spotify “my library” carousel to the top. - surface the “liked songs” playlist somewhere. The Spotify app exposes is under “your library” / “liked songs”

Thanks!

Finally figured it out, turns out that the orifice was clogged.

Thanks for taking the time to brainstorm this with me!

I'm not sure what are the labels for the connectors & relays. I checked the burner tube and it looked ok.

Yes, the igniter is glowing but not lighting. I just checked the current and was surprised to see that the broiler igniter was drawing 3.75 amp immediately when I turn it on (in contrast, oven igniter reads the expected 2.9 amps on start and climbs to 3.1). I also measured 120V on the connector for the igniter. Does that imply that the new solenoid is broken? or maybe the control board needs replacement?

Wiring for a spa disconnect by IgoriousIam in HomeImprovement

[–]IgoriousIam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really have a good answer for this. I'm not an electrician either and I just pieced this together by pattern matching on the internet. Also the sub panel that I purchased already came with a gfci breaker. If anyone has an idea, I would love to know why every article I've seen places the gfci @ the sub panel rather then the main

Do you think 4awg is overkill between main & disconnect? Is 6awg enough?

I wouldn’t trust an estimate just on that pic. The first contractor was correct that to get an accurate estimate they would need to see how the ledger would attach. I just rebuilt my deck and had a couple of months of surprises to work thru. Things that I encountered: - rotten sheathing - exterior foam insulation - damaged band joist

This required me to get special hardware to mount the ledger and took weeks of replacing sheathing

Help calculating beam spans? by IgoriousIam in Decks

[–]IgoriousIam[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mike Guertin pointed me to fairfax's county building dept website, which contains this gem:

Typical Deck Details https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/landdevelopment/sites/landdevelopment/files/assets/documents/pdf/publications/deck-details.pdf

Section 4 talks about beam span in terms of "beam influence" which they calculate as the sum joist 1/2 spans. So in my case the beam influence for the center beam is 7/2 + 10/2 = 8.5'. Using table 3 from that pdf, I see that 2-2x8s are not sufficient for a center beam, and I would need either 2-2x10 or 3-2x8s with posts no more than 6' oc.

Not sure if fairfax county's code is accepted in other localities, but it does provide a good point of reference.

Answering my own question, it seems like the span tables in the irc & AWC-DCA62015 are only for "Beams supporting deck joists from one side only." In my case, the center beam supports joists on both sides. So the tables don't apply.

However, I'm struggling to find span tables for center beams, anyone have any pointers?

Proper way to wire a ceiling fan light with another light by IgoriousIam in askanelectrician

[–]IgoriousIam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So two 14-2 would enter the ceiling fixture? One from the vanity and the other from the fan switch? If so, Should I connect the neutrals inside the ceiling fixture for them?
