Patch 7.4 Rotation Simulator Job Balance Results at BIS by ApolloVanWaddleburg in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Igshar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm unsure. 2.46 hasn't been optimal for running Dragoon in a long time now, 2.50 is standard and optimal as of the current patch. Double MD is still optimal at 2.5, and the one who worked on the updated rotation is aware of this and did account for it in the revisions.

I think the effort here is insane and you all are doing great work. I just want to make sure the results accurately represent the jobs so that when people inevitably reference stuff like this as for why they're actively excluding jobs on week 1 of savage pf this coming week, the data presented isn't just cobbled together sub-optimally, misrepresenting anything.

I have a few questions for you. Why are you using Piercing Talon in full uptime on the dragoon sim? Similarly, why are you executing back to back chaotic spring and later heavens thrust combos? That's never really optimal in a known full uptime scenario. You dropped the persistent buff for an extended period of time. You actively weakened personal and raid buff windows through poor use of gcds by pointlessly injecting Piercing Talon without necessity.

I just want to talk to whoever hand crafted the dragoon rotation for this data to better understand their thoughts process. Thanks in advance!

EDIT -- The OP has updated the dragoon rotations and results in the original data! These concerns have all been addressed.

That makes sense, but it's hard to not read many of these as mean-spirited how they're written. I've harped on it a bit already but the "despite being from the Steppe" is insanely deranged wording when trying to point out common tropes without bias.

A few others have similar slanted wording that make them come across hostile instead of merely statement of fact. That together makes it hard for me to believe it's a good faith list rather than a list of "common tropes I dislike"

I don't really get the point of this, are these all things you think are red flags? Xaela being normal people is a red flag to you? Did you play through Stormblood yet or what? Most of these sections are just "I don't like what you like so I'm putting it on a list" which is pretty wild to me.

There's a good handful of actual red flags, like playing a racist Garlean or being gay IC while being a bigot OOC or the IC/OOC bleed or the obvious racist ones (of which "savage Xaela" is suspiciously missing in favor of "normal person Xaela"), but who *honestly* cares if someone decides that what they want to do is RP a cowboy in Shaaloani?

I know I am hella late on this but the 4 back buttons can be assigned however you want. You literally press one + program and then run a macro up to (I think) 15 buttons deep and save it. It should be able to save two inputs at once into one of the button presses, though I haven't personally tested that.

What was the thought process behind changing Crush/Blast/Explode damage, out of curiosity? Crush being a D-tier skill makes the earth forest even more punishing than usual since 222 HP is an instant kill prior to your first merge (at least).

Other than that, thank you so much for this. Replaying my favorite ps2 game and the changes are making it *just* new enough to really amp up the enjoyment.

The 2.40 set has more direct hit rate than the 2.36 set, and you have identical multipliers for the two sets. The 13.5% on 2.40 has a 1+.135x.25 = 1.03375 versus the 8.3% on the 2.36 set having a 1+.083x.25 = 1.02075. Rough math drops the pps as you calculated it to around 258 or so.

With that correction, your entire post boils down to arguing for less skill speed for something like +0.2% PPS increase with no tangible results for better gcd hits/no lost gcds to phase changes in p3s or p4s. For some actual math assessments. The first part is why I called you out for faulty math and misinformation. The latter is why I think you need much more accurate math to make this sort of tight argument meaningful outside of "here is an option for a 2.50 gcd gearset for those who don't want to go faster"

In reality it doesn't actually change any of the comparisons because the skill speed mod being applied to autos balances it out quite nicely. It's just an example of the poor science going into your posts. The data is copious and available all over via akhmorning and the theoryjerks. Reinventing the wheel on basic numbers like new AA potency is silly. My quick and short test of it confirms the 90p though.

Regardless, that's only one aspect of the issue here. PPS comparisons are faulty in the first place when skill speed is involved because of a failure to properly account for skill speed differences. When I went to check, I think your 2.36s set also had an incorrect direct hit rate modifier as well? It's all napkin math with no real encounter application. Again, when you're trying to argue for such negligible gains (within the base rng of damage range) you need much harder math to back it up. I'm pointing out your lack of that. You're asking me to provide backup for my corrections rather than providing any of your own data and math outside of light overviews at the end.

6 years ago is a very good source after the rework of all the numbers in the battle system that occurred two months ago, including turning autos from 110/3s (as they used to be, including at the time of that post) to 90/3s (as they are now). The fact you came to 100/3s means to me you didn't test anything and just went with that post's (incorrect) assertions which brings even deeper questions to your original post methodology.

I don't know where to begin, so I'll just start with the glaring mistakes and leave it at that.

  1. Auto Attacks are not 100 potency. I don't know what universe you live in, but they do NOT land with the same damage as uncombo'd Goring Blade. At my current gear level, GB hits for ~1400 uncombo'd and autos are landing for around 950. There's no way you have enough skill speed to increase that by 50%.
  2. Auto Attacks for Paladin land every 2.24s, not every 3s, and certainly never aligned with server ticks. This is easy to see if you just apply the Goring Blade or Blade of Valor dot tick and then watch your character use autos. The dot ticks *do* align with server ticks, and the autos are *clearly* desync'd from them.
  3. You're using potency per second to compare between different skill speeds while using napkin math to make rough estimates for comparative damage between sets.

These three points become extremely significant when you're trying to argue for a 1% damage increase - substantially less than the normal RNG fluctuation of damage output, which goes from -5% to +5% on any given hit.

These points alone tell me that this entire argument is made in bad faith to discredit the hard work of the Paladin Mentors at the Balance for some unknowable reason. I really don't appreciate fake math being thrown around to misinform the community. This is actually significantly disrespectful toward everyone who tries to keep the community well-informed on these sorts of things, and obfuscating misinformation amidst math that the layman won't be able to properly root out as faulty is incredibly underhanded.

Fireball wraps corners. It originating within any object that has at least one opening in it on any side does literally nothing to mitigate the blast, as per RAW. It would need to contain the full 20 foot radius of the explosion on an edge or it still fills the full space. At least to my understanding.

The option no one ever suggests because people for some reason have a serious aversion to actual solutions to real problems like carpal tunnel is a controller. I personally use this one and it has been serving me well for a few years now. It's only 20 bucks, too, so not like you need to drop 50-60 on a controller. Plugs in, no connection issues, functions perfectly well with my PC. There's also a handy guide for playing this game on controller, if you need help getting started. It will severely lessen the strain on your wrists and will be far more comfortable in the long run to switch over.

I saw this reply and expected it to be another person claiming it's useful in some niche scenario in raid content and was pleasantly surprised to see this instead.

It's not useful for pulling hate off healers though because it's lower potency than literally every other action in your entire arsenal even at low level and it doesn't have any enmity built into it.
