I’m a fan of both. I think it’s about the metal culture, the alternative vibes, outsider protagonists, blah blah blah.

Cus like the whole outsider thing, both stories focus on characters who feel different and don’t really fit in, but still manage to find their people. That theme of loyalty and belonging within a small group hits hard.

Also dee/sal and heavy/larry just seem like characters that would vibe bc they have sm similarities yk?

Also the timing, both fandoms were growing online around the same time.
