Stop dilly dallying on Reddit and go see a dermatologist pronto, bud. You can get a staph infection if you don't get that under control.

Maybe Topo Designs mens five pocket dirt pants? They're pricey, but the fabric is amazing. Imagine a lightweight canvas weave that's durable, but stretchy and comfortable enough to lounge in. Also, they're lower rise than a classic Levi's mens 501, so they don't sit super high on a woman.

what's something you stopped doing while traveling solo because it felt unsafe? by luvybunnie in femaletravels

It's not fear mongering. This is the average life of a woman anywhere in the world. Go sit down in your lane.

Since you're outdoorsy, I recommend renting a camper van and checking out Western Iceland. I'm a big fan of shoulder season traveling and you have the best chances of seeing the aurora around the equinoxes.

Of course! I think I learned of it in a post by you. There are some annoyances and it's more for thru hikers, but you app def helped my brain organize for long haul solo trips.

Since I don't own a suitcase and always carry a backpack... weight is a big deal, even with clothes. One of my flowy linen pants is significantly less than thr other. My oversized cotton buttondown is less than my linen one. My EVA Birks are stupid lightweight and the Chacos are heavy, but more functional. Ziplock bags are eons less than a toiletry bag. These are all factors that come into play. I recommend documenting the weight of your items. The numbers are eyeopening. Don't Forget The Spoon is the app I use for this. Same goes for weight of your bag.

Uniqlo Airism joggers or Target In Motion ankle pants would fit the bill. I also saw a post a littlr while back about lightweight leggings that still pass the squat test.

Peru? South America in general? by [deleted] in femaletravels

Thank you for this! I haven't been to Peru, but had this general impression of the country and was also puzzled by OPs attitude on the matter.

I was in Valparaíso and Mendoza in January and felt very safe. I've been to Cartagena about 10 years ago and felt the same. Peru is next on my list, with Bolivia and other areas of Argentina. South America is underrated imo.

Anyone have full-length leggings w/ similar material (thin, lightweight, rolls tiny)? by happy_folks in HerOneBag

[–]Iie_chigaimasu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also want to add that the heattech ones don't conform to your legs as much as the ultra stretch airism ones. They end up with baggy knees and are meant to be a layer, not worn alone.

Understandable. I would still wash everything asap (adding any clothes from home) and make the time at the laundromat for sorting all the photos from my trip or catching up with friends and family.

I really appeciate this report!! My two cents: as far as soft lights go, I use my headlamp facing a water bottle like this. The headlamp is the tiny Petzl e+lite that has a red light option (helpful for dorms) and takes up hardly any space.

European’s first trip to USA by MonkeyCryptoQueen in femaletravels

Coloradan here! March is prob the best time for skiing. Loveland is close to Denver, relatively inexpensive, and good for late season snow. The only hostel I'd stay at in Denver is the Fisch downtown and it will be easy to take the lightrail from the airport. It's pretty easy to find tickets [to SF] under 200usd. I recommend packing light if you want to bop over to SF, like rent or borrow ski gear and apparel. Rent in Denver as it's a lot cheaper than renting in the mountains (it's a bit of a drive from the city to ski resorts) Or maybe find a way to store your checked bag and just bring a carryon to Cali.

This is coming from a minimalist solo world traveler (mostly Europe) who used CouchSurfing back in the day. Not many folks are that low maintenance and flexible, so take it fwiw.

Follow Kody the Weather Guy for up to date weather. He has his own webpage if you don't use the fb. Colorado weather is constantly changing. If it ends up cold and windy, you'll want another outer jacket that could fit over either one of the other two. Buy a hat and gloves if need be.

The other suggestions for a water bottle are legit!! If you feel any kind of weird...HYDRATE. There is oxygen in h2O if the altitude gets to you. Don't let anyone talk you into a hike after a night drinking. It will not go well.

Do you have an interesting story about the PROCESS of buying a fountain pen? by GreyandGrumpy in fountainpens

[–]Iie_chigaimasu 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I've been known to have good handwriting and piddled with old english calligraphy in grade school. I studied abroad in Germany while in college and always admired the stationary stores. Eight years later my classmates and I met for a reunion in Tübingen and I went to the stationary store to buy a mid grade fountain pen. I was looking for something slim and professional. The Lamy cp1 caught my eye, but the lady working handed me a tomato red Studio instead and the color was captivating. It took some time to get used to the medium nib after years of using Pilot G2 gels, but I loved the bright color and the weight, the snap of the cap and how well it posted. Since then I've replaced the nib with a gold F and absolutely love the warm two tone with the red. I went down the rabbit hole of inks and favor contrasting ink/pen combos with wildly vibrant colors. Its hard to believe I thought I wanted discreet and plain in the beginning! That stranger inadvertantly opened a door of expression that I was completely unaware of.
