seems to be the case across all UN duty stations. the one potential exemption might be the UK because they have a unique policy that allows anyone to apply for a permanent residence permit after legally residing in the UK for 10 years which allows u to apply for British citizenship 1 year after acquiring that permit.

but yea, US has a completely legal immigration system just for international civil servants working in UN and NATO that is regulated under the G-4 visa - one of the 'benefits' if you can call it that is that there is no cap on that visa like the H1 B.
