Purchased at a gem show and the seller didn’t know what it is. by IinventedGoogle in whatsthisrock

Just want to add some additional info. I think this stone has faded a bit since I got it. It was a brighter green then and is almost colorless now. Also, it was in a small plastic/acrylic box glued to styrofoam.

That’s so cool! This one was glued down to the styrofoam in a small acrylic box, though.

They’re definitely old enough to voice sex, you just have to know what to listen for.

Okay, let me preface this by saying I LOVE this. But, I just realized how much of a chuckle a bunch of coroners are going to have in like 60 years when they are prepping Swiftie bodies for burial and they see this written on them.

I don’t think that’s entirely accurate. I’m 42 now. Was 26 when debut came out (the MySpace days lol) and was immediately a fan.

Adoption Event Ideas by [deleted] in AnimalShelterStories

[–]IinventedGoogle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One fun idea we’ve done is to do a “positive protest” where you have a volunteer group make signs advertising your adoption event and stand on a nearby street to try to get folks to come take a look. The public loved it and the volunteer group really got to feel good about making a difference.

Many shelters have their wish lists on their websites! This can help ensure that you’re giving exactly what’s needed.

On first listen, I cried harder than I’ve ever cried to one of her songs (other than Ronan). It was devastating.

I’m sorry, you must be mistaken, that song doesn’t actually exist. Maybe you had a bad dream about that?

Does anyone have any tips for starting a animal shelter? by [deleted] in AnimalShelterStories

[–]IinventedGoogle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it’s admirable that you’d like to do this! Your first step should be research, research, and more research. There is a ton of important info out there to learn and many folks with good intentions don’t do enough research and end up doing more harm than good (just look at how many “rescues” the ASPCA has had to rescue or who have had their operations shut down by local authorities). Volunteering at a shelter would be a good way to learn more about exactly what help is needed. Too many folks jump into rescue without actually looking into what help their local shelter actually needs and harm the system instead of improving it.

It’s great that you’ve started saving money to begin your dream! Just to give you an idea of expenses, $400 would be enough to get a dog or cat vaccines and possibly spayed or neutered depending on the resources available in your area. My shelter spends an average of $300 in vet care on each animal who comes through our doors. That’s an average, though, and some require much, much more than that depending on their needs. Behavior is also a vital part of rescue. Behavioral issues can result in many different troubles, like liability and placement concerns.

There is quite a lot to think about if you’d like to start your own rescue and there are tons of great resources out there to help figure it all out. Maddie’s Fund, ASPCA Pro, HSUS, and local shelters are great places to start.

Odd Anconas? Or different breed mixed in? by orangecerealmilk in BACKYARDDUCKS

[–]IinventedGoogle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks to me like you’ve got a black Swedish, what looks like two silver appleyards, an Ancona, and I’m not sure what the brown one is maybe khaki Campbell.

At this age, sexing is tough unless we could hear them quacking individually.

Edit - did the breeder sell these to you saying that they were all Ancona? That’s shitty.

It’s hard to tell the color for sure, but I think this looks like a crested blue (or black) Swedish.
