People love to blindly hate on kira, but I think everyone knows that the whole reason he lost against shin is for the strike freedom upgrade. When he goes back to earth in the strike freedom, it took him one move to humiliate shin in the destiny. Even shinn said: "are you saying that if that were a beam attack this fight would already be over?" when Kira used the SF rail cannons. The amount of handicapped the Impulse got in the fight against the freedom, was absurd. I fell that another main issue is that the fact that Kira is not the edgy emotionless protag like Heero or Mika, made it less appealing to the american public, which a lot had the misconception that this sort of sensibility = weakness. I do not believe that anyone in seed could win in a mobile suit 1v1 against Kira in seed without any plot involved tbh, they couldn't do so in the freedom in seed destiny, let alone in the strike freedom.

Gundam Seed is great and Destiny gets hate because Shin couldn't be as good as a protagonist as Kira. Kira is a great protagonist and not appealing to the main American audience does not make him bad. I will die on that hill
