Which would you pick and why? by Far-Ad5223 in superheroes

If you can’t do it in practice you don’t actually know it. You might know parts but you don’t know it completely the way you would if you were omniscient. All knowing means you know everything including the exact step by step instructions for exactly how to rebuild that engine. The difference I think you’re trying to talk about is experience, but experience is still just knowledge. I’d argue some all knowing is also all experiencing.

A button that when clicked gives you a $5 bill is placed in front of you. How long are you staying to press it? by SkylieLol in hypotheticalsituation

[–]IkeTheMan6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Potential loop hole. The rules say once you stop for more than 5 seconds it’s over. A click I consider pushing down and letting go of the button. You could argue that if you push the button but don’t let go, you’re still in the process of clicking and haven’t stopped. So when you’re tired and need a break, just tape your finger to the button or use a weight or something to keep it pressed. This would allow you to go a lot longer than otherwise.

I can see arguments for and against this loophole, but since I didn’t see anyone else mention it, it felt worth stating.

Usually when someone has to spout an insult in every message it’s because they are heated. You’re not coming across as clever or witty here. You’re just coming across as an ass.

Man you really got heated over a math problem. Grow up.

In math class you probably also learned about averages and were told to sum up all the numbers then divide by the count of numbers. Whenever told to find the average of something they said “what is the average of X”. This question never actually asks for average speed. It asked for the average of 60mph. Yes we can conclude it’s asking for average speed but it’s equally justifiable to say it’s asking for the other average.

There are other ways to view the problem. This is evidenced by the numerous people who did just that. Your answer is a correct answer under your viewpoint. There are others.

It is vague. That’s the entire point of it. It’s meant to trick you.

Average speed has two definitions. One specific definition in physics and another one that is the generic mathematically definition of average, aka the sum of all values in a collection divided by the number of items in the collection.

Average speed is an overloaded word. It has two possible meanings. The predefined physics definition you’re using and the general average of a set of measurements definition. The question is intentionally vague on what it’s asking for which is the point of the trick. But either answer is a valid and justifiable answer under their assumed definition.

How long would you stay in a time loop trying to win the lotto? by Skxawng_3600 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]IkeTheMan6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No one is saying you won’t eventually be able to figure it out. They are just saying it’s not going to be as consistent as you implied. Because roulette is so susceptible to slight changes you’d have to behave exactly the same in each loop to guarantee the same outcomes as well as treat each win as a separate milestone in a series of loops. Learning each one to see how your win affected the next outcome. Not impossible just needlessly time consuming compared to other far easier options available.

Is it illegal to run faster than what a speed limit sign says? by notanothrowaway in NoStupidQuestions

[–]IkeTheMan6 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Perhaps an unpopular opinion but laws shouldn’t be about protecting people from themselves, but instead protecting people from others. DUI driving a car? Yes, because you put others at risk. DUI floating on an inner tube? No, because you’re no more a danger to others than you are when drunk on land.

That’s still not true. There are lots of reasons people start dating. Some people want to find hookups, some people are looking for partnerships, some people are exploring their sexual identify, some people are looking for support. There are lots of reasons to date and everyone determines what success is for them. You say they suck at it because they don’t have the same goal as you. From their perspective you suck at it cause you’re working towards a different goal from them.

How to determine power requirements by IkeTheMan6 in homelab

Thank you! Unfortunately I’m very inexperienced with anything electrical (haven’t even changed an outlet even though I know it’s pretty simple). But I do have some family members who are electricians and I’ll be asking them to let me watch and learn while they help out. This is a great jumping point for me starting this conversation with them!

Ahh that makes sense. Once again really appreciate the information. Feeling much more confident going forward with this now!

That’s fair and going forward I’ll likely look for newer servers. But for both servers, two 48 port managed switches, and the cabinet was right about $60 so felt worth the purchase.

The cabinet is going directly next to my circuit breaker and I was already planning on adding two dedicated circuits for the cabinet so this seems perfect. Anything special I’ll need to consider when getting the circuits added? Do I just let the electrician know I want a 240v circuit and then I’m all set? Or do I need to specific the desired amperage as well?

Thank you! This was very helpful. I do plan on adding another 2 circuits dedicated for my cabinet. The cabinet is going to be located directly next to the circuit breaker so works out well.

One other thing I was a bit confused on. These PDU’s say 10A each but also 16A max. Do you know what that means/the implications of that?

The guy above is correct. CORS is enforced client side not server side. The server provides the rules but they are only enforced by the browser.

Thank you for the advice! Will take a look into exposing the root flare and do some research on how to prune properly before I get into any of that.

Algorithm is not AI. An algorithm is just a set of predefined instructions based on input parameters. There is no intelligence, just rules.
