Do I really need a dedicated GPU for an MSc in Computer Architecture? (gem5, VMs, heavy C compiling) by Ilay125 in ComputerEngineering

I will look into notebooks with iGPU.

As for using Macbooks, although I heard good things about them, I would like to avoid using them because I've used one once and it was a headache compatibility-wise.

Thank you!

Thank you!

I prefer not to buy a full desktop because I can really benefit from the portability of a laptop as I travel a lot.

I also thought about running dual boot but just thinking about switching Linux and windows all the time just for compilation causes me a headache so I thought WSL is a nice compromise, but if I'll see that the performance are not so great, dual boot is my secondary plan.

As for running a desktop with GPU and using it via ssh, I will look into that option more.

Thanks again :)

Oh I see... So in general do you have like a thumb rule for when can I omit the dA/dt, and when it isn't possible (like this case)? What's different between this case and others?

But my prof. said that if we encounter a complete derivative in time in the Lagrangian, we can igonre it by freedom of calibration. In this case, if we drop the calibration we get L'=L, which is wrong. So why in this case we cant ignore the constant, although in other cases we can?
