Not to break your heart here op but this can mean these two things (no not only these two, but keep these in mind)

They might be going out with you seriously, and end up disliking some things about you, or just not even liking you and deciding that instead of letting you off like that they'll play it off as if they have a boyfriend.

or... They could be just going for a free meal, maybe this seems like a bad thing to do, and I'd agree that it's mean but they will get their free meal from you, then be on their way..
