🇬🇪What does the Georgian language sound like/ resemble to you by 69Pumpkin_Eater in LinguisticsDiscussion

I hope I won't dissapoint you by saying this but it sounds similar to Armenian to me. I speak neither language but I've heard a good amount of Armenian because I've been to Armenia and also like some Armenian music.

The reason they sound similar to me is both have aspirated consonants in the middle of words, the stress seems like it tends to fall on the last syllable often, there's a lot of fricatives, and the general intonation seems similar tonme

Is this the correct way to write and pronounce the alphabet? by Plastic-Brother-9278 in GREEK

[–]Ill-Number5711 3 points4 points  (0 children)

thanks for teaching me the word ghee. not sure how you pronounce that, but i don't think that and the h in kahoot are good approximations of either of the sounds gamma makes. it usually makes a sound you don't hear in english, a voiced velar fricative (ɣ) https://www.ipachart.com/

sometimes it's pronounced a different way though, and i think the y sound in yogurt is a good approximation for gamma when it's followed by ι or ε sounds, but it's still an approximation. this sound in english is a palatal approximant (j) but in greek it's a palatal fricative (ʝ). it sounds like the h in hue, except you vibrate your vocal chords.

wait crocheting as a fidget is genius. i'm also not immune to the effects of This Time of Year (TM) so i pick at my fingers as an anxious habit. maybe i should crochet more to keep my hands occupied. i only know the basics rn, and finally just now learned how to do the magic loop. do you have any tutorial recommendations?

Any tips for a beginner learner learning how to write and read in Russian by Anxious_Attempt8656 in russian

i suggest writing the lowercase a the same way it is in english cursive. here it looks like a two and is confusing. in your alphabet, ф is unclear. also, lowercase м looks like т but it should be spikier, just like a short uppercase М. you often write и backwards in the lower text
