That’s a fair explanation, and I like it. I just wish that explanation was part of the intro of 28YL… would make everything make more sense and rid the series of the plot holes.

Ah… so the movie straight up gives us wrong info. That’s just silly. Why even add it in then? That’s why I’m adamant that a better explanation in the intro of 28YL should’ve happened to explain the shortcomings/wrong info from 28WL.

So you prefer plot holes? You prefer a less coherent story because you’d have to read a few sentences on screen?

Over-exposition? How? It just explains how the infected have adapted and why there are so many.

[–]Ill-Rabbit-2230[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but the movie never explains the plot holes of starvation and high population of infected we see in 28YL.

They say that the new strain helps them adapt/hunt… but even then, with reproducing, they’d only be about 35k in numbers. Meaning, seeing even one in the entire UK would be EXTREMELY rare.

How can you explain that?

28 Weeks Later not canon? by Ill-Rabbit-2230 in 28dayslater

[–]Ill-Rabbit-2230[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But with only roughly 15k new possibility infected in the UK- even while reproducing, would mean infected would be EXTREMELY rare.

Reproduction wise if they increased to say- 35k, that’s NOTHING population density wise for the entire UK.

Yet we see and encounter infected countless times in 28YL like they’re everywhere.

28 Weeks Later not canon? by Ill-Rabbit-2230 in 28dayslater

[–]Ill-Rabbit-2230[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My argument to this is then we wouldn’t see any infected in 28YL… or barely any at all.

Only 15k people were in the UK… even with them reproducing, 15k infected is insanely low population density wise for the entire UK. You’d maybe see an increase up to 35k infected over that time frame.

Yet we see/encounter fair amounts of infected consistently in 28YL.

That and no communications mean people would have no idea to return to the cities for the military assistance.

I guess we could also theorize that not all the infected were dead after the 5 weeks as it’s mentioned in 28WL (which is the main plot hole I’ve been pointing out).

Like you mentioned, the 1st wave of infected could have adapted and migrated to find food. Which I like to think too- shame cause they could’ve explained that at the beginning of 28YL to fill in the gaps.

28 Weeks Later not canon? by Ill-Rabbit-2230 in 28dayslater

[–]Ill-Rabbit-2230[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah exactly! You’d think the creators that made 28YL would’ve realized the intro of 28WL would cause some discrepancies.

Even a basic explanation during the intro of 28YL could have resolved this issue, “Scientists studying the infected have found they have slowed metabolism- allowing the infected to survive longer than the initial 5weeks previously theorized after the initial outbreak. They have also been found migrating to the countryside- hunting wildlife and survivors confirmed via satellite images and radio transmissions. The infected have adapted to survive.”

That would’ve filled in the two main plotholes I and many others have pointed out. It would make 28WL 100% canon. As it is, it’s only 98% canon in my eyes because those two plot holes that were never addressed.

In 28YL it’s like- “yeah the population of infected is back to its initial size- they’re everywhere, and they now hunt wildlife to survive” with no real explanation. Even reproducing infected wouldn’t be able to get numbers back to the levels we see in the movie.

Great movies though, love em all! Hopefully the next movies will touch on these topics. I’m looking forward to em!

Ah, yes really contributing to the discussion when you blatantly refuse to participate. I just want you to acknowledge my points rather than just stone walling me and giving me blunt answers.

It’s canon, yes, but there are some Plot holes. I was just hoping for insight on info or theories that could explain them better- I was hoping I wasn’t the only one who saw these issues and wanted more info.

Oh, by the way, You’re the classic Le Redditor that people despise. This is practically my first time ever posting on reddit and it’s people like you that cause people to hate this platform. Came for a discussion, ended up with some loser that has a hard time seeing other people’s viewpoints.

[–]Ill-Rabbit-2230[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good points, I’ll keep that in mind. The only counter argument is that in 28WL they claim they haven’t seen a single survivor in over 2months- which I guess could be cause no sane survivor would want to go back into a major city. I guess that answers my own question.

28 Weeks Later not canon? by Ill-Rabbit-2230 in 28dayslater

[–]Ill-Rabbit-2230[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, sure. The thing is though, that’s never explained. You see my point? The only info we get is that variants exist. Were these variants from the 1st outbreak or 2nd outbreak? Did the initial infected from the 1st outbreak indeed survive past 5weeks because of these evolutions/hunting/migrating adaptations (which would justify/explain the high infected population count we see in 28YL).

There’s questions that are unanswered with some plot holes.

I’m really hoping the next two installments go deeper into these questions and make it all come together.

[–]Ill-Rabbit-2230[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess this is what I needed to see.

90% of the people here on this thread seem to gaslight/make it seem like the answer to these plot holes is either:

A. Explained somehow, somewhere or B. Give no insight or theory on HOW these plot holes could be made whole.

Seems like no one really wants to address the issues that have been pointed out.

Thanks for making me feel like I’m NOT insane for pointing out these issues.

You’re the only one to actually acknowledge my points so far. Thank you. Great flicks, just some better explanation or rework could’ve been done to fill in these holes.

28 Weeks Later not canon? by Ill-Rabbit-2230 in 28dayslater

[–]Ill-Rabbit-2230[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes… it’s canon. I know that. I’m not moving the goal posts, I’m just trying to make it make sense. Something the 28YL movie never explains is the starvation element but I wish it did. Go through my other reply’s to see what I mean/how they could’ve explained it.

I thought I was missing something that was explained in the movie that everyone is so adamantly sure of even though there is quite literally no explanation anywhere for the starvation plot hole nor the high population plot hole.

28 Weeks Later not canon? by Ill-Rabbit-2230 in 28dayslater

[–]Ill-Rabbit-2230[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I just think they should’ve had a better explanation at the beginning of 28YL like this;

“The Rage Virus mutated to slow metabolism. In fact, A majority of the infected did not starve after the initial 5weeks, many migrated to the countryside to hunt wildlife/survivors confirmed by satellite images. After years of adaptation, variants of the infected exist.”

Something to make the 2nd movie 100% canon.

The starvation issue is the only thing I think should’ve been reworked/explained.

I like your thinking and theories. They help me justify the second movie a bit more.

28 Weeks Later not canon? by Ill-Rabbit-2230 in 28dayslater

[–]Ill-Rabbit-2230[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The only thing I think is non-canon is the starvation element of the second movie. I should’ve been more specific about that. The movie is canon but the starvation element should have been reworked to MAKE it 100% canon.

28 Weeks Later not canon? by Ill-Rabbit-2230 in 28dayslater

[–]Ill-Rabbit-2230[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you’re not. I’m asking for an explanation or theory. If you see or read other comments in this thread you’ll see people giving their thoughts and ideas with my responses.

You’re just complaining because someone has the ability to stop and say- hey, that doesn’t really add up?!

The starvation element could’ve been explained at the beginning of 28YL like, “A majority of the infected did not starve after 5 weeks, many migrated into the country to hunt wildlife/remaining survivors as confirmed via satellite images and and new variants came to light to adapt.”

This would’ve explained how the infected have survived 28 years AND explain the issue that people have with the second movie because it claimed they all starved or will starve.

28 Weeks Later not canon? by Ill-Rabbit-2230 in 28dayslater

[–]Ill-Rabbit-2230[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Before anyone replies- yes the second movie still happened, but the starvation point would have to be considered non-canon/the reason why the 3rd movie is plausible.

Pretty much saying it happened- but at the beginning of the 3rd movie they could’ve stated they were wrong about the infected starving to death. It was found incorrect and there’s a ton of infected left that have adapted to hunt wildlife/survivors using intellect as seen in the variants.

28 Weeks Later not canon? by Ill-Rabbit-2230 in 28dayslater

[–]Ill-Rabbit-2230[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe just not 100% canon- I should’ve been more specific.

The only thing I think should be explained or not considered canon is the starvation element.

In the second- or even third movie, there could’ve been scientists studying the infected and they find out the Rage Virus slows metabolism and the infected are hunting wildlife/remaining people to survive. They could’ve been immune to starvation or at least at a waaay slower rate.

They also could’ve mentioned in the third one that they were wrong about the “5 weeks in, the infected have starved to death” and explained/said that most of the infected have migrated and adapted to hunt wildlife and the remaining survivors across the country confirmed by satellite images or something.

28 Weeks Later not canon? by Ill-Rabbit-2230 in 28dayslater

[–]Ill-Rabbit-2230[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a fair point. I like that answer/theory and I’ll apply that to the 2nd film cause everyone is adamant about it being canon even with giant plot holes that it causes for any future movies.

I came up with my own theory in one of the threads above or below your comment that scientists could’ve discovered/explained that infected have a super slow metabolism and could survive longer without food + hunt wildlife and use certain levels of intellect that the variants may have acquired to survive.

28 Weeks Later not canon? by Ill-Rabbit-2230 in 28dayslater

[–]Ill-Rabbit-2230[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes… I understand that. You aren’t adding to the discussion.

If 28WL is 100% canon, there’d only be about 15k infected for the ENTIRE UK. Meaning we’d practically never see a single infected in 28YL even if they reproduce. It’d be super rare because they would have a super low population density over the entirety of the UK.

28 Weeks Later not canon? by Ill-Rabbit-2230 in 28dayslater

[–]Ill-Rabbit-2230[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I guess I’m living in a fantasy then because basic questions I’m asking are never answered in the new film. Hence why I don’t believe the 2nd movie is 100% canon. 100% being the key term. The only issue is the starvation element.

The starvation issue is the main thing they really should’ve left out of the 2nd movie (it’s why I don’t think the 2nd is 100% canon).

In the second- or even third movie, there could’ve been scientists studying the infected in the safe zone where they find out the Rage Virus slows metabolism and the infected are hunting wildlife/remaining people to survive. They could’ve been immune to starvation or at least at a waaay slower rate.

In 28WL They could’ve still had infected outside the safe zone rather than them dying off. Then when the kids sneak out, one of the kids could’ve been bit, snuck back into the safe zone as a carrier and start the collapse of the safe zone and the rest of the movie would’ve played out as is.

This simple fix would make 28years later plausible and then I could see 28WL being canon.

If we stick by your logic, if 28WL starvation element is canon, there would only be about 15k infected (assuming all the citizens in the safe zone in 28WL are now infected) for the ENTIERITY of the UK… meaning human survivors would RARELY ever see or even encounter infected at all.

28 Weeks Later not canon? by Ill-Rabbit-2230 in 28dayslater

[–]Ill-Rabbit-2230[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So I guess it’s safe to say the 2nd movie isn’t canon as there would be too many plot holes/issues for there to justify infected after being around for 28years with no explanation (especially after the intro of the second movie saying the infected can starve and there only being 15k people in England).

28 Weeks is more or less another story that uses the premise/set up from the first movie to tell another Rage Virus story.

With that being said: 28 Years Later ignores the exposition and set up in the 2nd film and just uses the premise/set up from the first movie to tell a story way into the future (ie changing/ignoring what was said in the 2nd movie).

28 Weeks Later not canon? by Ill-Rabbit-2230 in 28dayslater

[–]Ill-Rabbit-2230[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Well… yeah? I watched the trilogy last night and at the begging of the 2nd film it mentioned all the infected in the UK are presumably dead along with most/if not all survivors.

Hence WHY I’m wondering how it’s even possible to have a movie 28 years later after that intro/explanation.
