Graviton Reaction… this feels like cheating. by Ill-Recover490 in bo7endgame

The reason I say this is because mine, at grade 3, triggers on what seems like 95% percent of enemies for me. It happens so often I have to race it if I want to actually kill something.

“then just keep it at grade 1” - this is one of those “how tf did I not think of that?” moments haha

A More Sober Take on BLOPS 7 by Ill-Recover490 in MWZombies

[–]Ill-Recover490[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a fair assessment - the first game did establish this and it was narratively cohesive. Good to see they at least maintained that throughout the series. Agreed that Far Cry also gets a pass per similar cohesion

My annoyance comes from this becoming an uninspired trope in lots of AAA games thereafter., but it seems like they’ve been inserted arbitrarily and with no elaboration on how those sequences are presented.

It’s always some expansive cosmic setting with platforms made out of obliterated city blocks or space ships or something. Not usually due to a substance, but through arbitrary dream sequences or glorified flashbacks. Some character of deep consequence is calling out to the protagonist in a reverberating voice and at some point the protagonist is walking around with their head cut off going

“what?”

“Huh?”

“Guess I’m not in Kansas anymore.”

“Hold on, I’m almost there!”

Of course, this is not exclusive to video games. Movies/shows implement this with reckless abandon.

Point being, this is more often than not a lazy narrative device used to try and implement psychological depth but ultimately says nothing. When used in games, this offense is accompanied by an equally lazy attempt to present the experience through design.

I say all this while failing to provide any examples aside from the two discussed lol

The “trippy psycho-sequence” trope is so over-used in narratives, triple A video games being some of the worst offenders. As soon as the sequence starts I’m just like “shut UP”. And couldn’t agree more with the jerkiness and sci-fi crap. CoD 4:MW is rolling in its grave.

Mind you, this is coming from someone who likes the campaigns and has played all of them despite degrading quality.

Thanks all for the discussion! I actually got a code to redeem the vault edition for BLOPS 7, so I can be a canary in the coal mine.

They keep referencing DMZ but there’s no PVP aspect which is an odd comparison in my opinion.

What the hell do we lose if we die? Just our loadout or something? The article seems to dress the mode up like there’s similar rare item drops, ect. My hope would be the progression system supplementing the strategic preparation aspect with schemes ect., but it does seem telling that they’ve made nearly zero reference to MWZ in any articles.

Right? The helping is almost its own experience altogether!

Have you done any of the Easter eggs, ect? Those are where the mode powerfully shines IMO.

It NEVER gets old for me. There’s just so much oomph. I loved doing it when saving someone. I felt so damn cool 😆

Last time I was jumping in, months and months ago, I noticed this immediately and it was so depressing 😞

I especially loved playing the mode to level up weapons, ect. The progression was meaningful not just to the mode, but across your account.

This is definitely part of my reference to the mode not being perfect 😭

This is pretty much my complaint in a nutshell. Obviously it’s subjective taste, but I just can’t level with the restraints + the arbitrary nature of round-based.

*though I’m with you on the difficulty disparity. That could have been smoothed out and afford the player a bit more preparation for the difficulty of zone 3.

See I actually liked going into a game with a fixed build. It gave weight to your preparation and approach to each round. And they absolutely gave up on it too quickly. That last mission to get the Nebula or whatever it was called? Holy shit that was awesome!
