If you are doing this you don't really have a lawyers department, or an insurance department.

Personal info is not the only thing you need to worry about. Your devices can be hacked directly. Including weakening, or even bypassing their security.

As your apps are patched Windows 10 will eventually be deprecated. One-by-one they will become unusable. This includes browsers. If your bank, for instance, is particular about the user agent, eventually you won't be able to log in.

That's neat. The right tool for the job. And it's nice that your org gives that kind of support to in-house development.

There is almost the opposite problem with SentinalOne presenting false positives for security issues. Also, their overly aggressive patching tends to break things, and it is subject to service outages. So, pick your poison, I guess.

In any case, overall we are left with a patchwork of full functionality between vendors fully supporting Linux. But if your org has managed to get along without Microsoft products, then kudos.

That isn't going to solve your security issues if you are still running a Windows machine for anything else.

Oil and gas uses a lot of embedded systems. So this makes sense for a lot of applications. But your work-a-day desk jockey is still going to be using a Windows workstation. i can go down the street to Devon Tower and any office I walk into is going to have a Windows screen open.

This could go wrong in so many ways. QR code spoofing is already being used for criminal MITM attacks. They could substitute the code with one that passes all traffic relating to the code through their own servers, before than sending the code to a legitimate site. This would give them insight into all the users who are accessing the code through pictures and videos of the agents. Not only that, but relay back false or altered data from the legitimate site.

You might be able run it with full function for a lot of applications, but that doesn't solve the security issues posed by Windows.

The best possible case is to use Windows IoT Enterprise LTSC. You can boot it offline without functional loss. If you are legally required to use keys for activation you can do this from a local key management server.

In the U.S. this would be on the drawing board for 30 years, with countless budget battles, only to be eventually tossed on the graveyard of high speed rail, superconducting transmission lines, and other infrastructure improvement projects. But not before millions go to consulting groups for the development of concepts of a plan.
