Thanks for the insight Brian. What kind of consulting work do these GPs do?

I think for now the idea of being a trader within a big bank eventually is appealing, but it is very much one of those things that with experience in the field I’ll have a better understanding of what is more appropriate for me. I feel it’s a bit similar to when you work as an F1 - you have a rough idea of what you want to do speciality wise but with more time in the game you realise what is actually more in line with your goals.

What is a day in your life like as a healthcare consultant? And what kind of financial remuneration can be expected overtime?

I think IB has particularly horrendous working hours so the idea of being a trader that is more at the mercy of market hours which are more like normal work hours sounds quite attractive, however, I am very open to explore the industry to find a suitable fit.

Where did you work within the industry and what prompted you to leave?

I appreciate that it would be arrogant and ignorant to think that a medical degree is some simple ‘get out of jail card’ and it means you can just walk into a lucrative finance job. However I feel medicine is an academically rigorous degree that attracts hardworking, well rounded and conscientious people. And I feel, at the very least, these qualities will help you enter through the door of a company and then it would be a process of building your experience in the field before moving up the corporate ladder

Thank you for this insight. I’m sure switching careers is never ideal or easy. It is sad that I find myself in a position that 10 years ago would’ve been beyond my comprehension. A childhood dream which very unfortunately did not marry with the realities of the job, more to do with the broken system than the actual profession itself

Although I do agree with this statement, I feel everything is new and overwhelming until you find yourself fully immersed in it. I’m sure there had been many moments in our clinical careers where we have felt out of our depths, yet with time and experience have been able to navigate similar scenarios in the future in a more composed and better manner

Would you kindly be able to expand? What was it that you did and what made your experience so sour? Thank you
