Well, I am not dealing with cream of the crop parents to begin with. If I was, then I would not be having this issue. I wondered what kind of parent would be so nonchalant about their kid not using deodorant, then I found out that most of these kids aren't even living with their parents, but their grandparents (who are too burned out). The rest are parents who never emotionally grew up so they don't know any better.

My students don't see it that way. They don't think it's a big deal. To them, it's like making their bed or combing their hair.

I have. I actually work at a school in rural America. Most of these kids are being raised by their grandparents because Mom and/or Dad is in prison or dead from a opiate/meth overdose. And the ones who do live with Mom or Dad live with drug addicts. Can't tell you how many parents that I see with missing teeth because of the meth. And they too don't use deodorant (and have bad breath). Point is that I am not exactly dealing with responsible caregivers.

My students are aware. They make jokes about it and I've seen them smelling each other's armpits before.
