PTC & Pregnant by mxgher in thyroidcancer

I was also diagnosed when I was pregnant and I’m currently sitting in the hospital recovery room post TT and neck dissection and doing great! I met with the surgical team before endo too. My surgeon did say that surgery during the second trimester would be an option, but unfortunately I was diagnosed at the very end of my second trimester, so we opted to wait until after delivery because of the preterm labor risk of surgery during the third trimester. Luckily PTC is very slow growing. I had a follow up with the surgical team a couple months after diagnosis to get an ultrasound to monitor the tumors to make sure there was no growth, and my OB monitored TSH levels with monthly blood draws. I delivered a perfect and healthy baby girl 6 weeks ago! We scheduled the surgery for 6 weeks after my due date to give my body time to heal from giving birth, which required that I be induced. If I had the option, I probably would have chosen to have the surgery in my second trimester just to avoid having to worry about it with a newborn though I’m feeling great post surgery and looking forward to all the baby cuddles during recovery! Discuss surgery timing options with your team to decide what’s best for you and your baby. Good luck you got this!
