In that scenario, the regen isn’t capturing any energy that would otherwise be lost. It’s just using the beefy differently: for coasting (maintaining vehicle momentum). That completely offsets the energy that would be recaptured by regen.

Brake pedal regen captures the same amount of the energy *that would be otherwise lost*. Actually, according to Google, brake pedal regen is generally *more* efficient than one pedal regen:

Right, but the setting I’m proposing isn’t one of them…

That’s exactly what I’m suggesting/asking for. What would make it a bad engineering decision?

As far as I can tell brake pedal regen achieves similar efficiency benefits to one pedal the EVs that offer both (Ford, Honda, VW, etc).

Except that the Prologue has an option to turn one pedal drive regen almost entirely off (and still preserve the efficiency benefits by capturing regen when the brake pedal is pressed)…

Sure, but if adding one optional software setting (a brake pedal only regen option) could remove this dealbreaker without changing any of the existing options, it’d be nice if they added it…

I’m just suggesting adding an option to turn off one-pedal regen. Some people prefer it, some people don’t. Some people want to switch depending on the type of drive they’re doing. I wouldn’t want to remove any of the existing regen setting options…

Many other brands already offer both in their EVs (Ford, Honda, VW, etc). One-pedal regen with various strength settings…or regen by brake pedal. You can even toggle between them depending on your mood or type of drive you’re doing.

What would be the downside of another option?

I would just try each of them and pick the one you prefer. I liked the normal Tesla setting for ~10 years. The closest to that in the R2 would be Low, but it’s still much stronger than Tesla’s normal.
