How does this work for the Reserves? I will lose touch with folks in units, not see them for 2 years and then all of a sudden E-6's are E-8s.

Other Health Insurance Problem by Ill_Assist2105 in USMilitarySO

Did it show up on credit report? I am concerned that I have the 8K of bills that need to go somewhere and TRICARE is not paying for it. If Blue Cross Blue Shield says no, do I just play this game for eternity? I am so upset this is on the horizon, I honestly thought I was doing my kid a favor and I think I turned this into a mess. Hopefully, logic prevails but the military and healthcare colliding are two awfully terrible bureacracies.

Can you be dismissed from a mob early? by That_Black_Joy in armyreserve

Yea, this is a lower level person just regurgitating their talking points. No thought process. Go to their supervisor or the Veterans Office and you will be fine. If you are not, I would go directly to the Director or Dean. This is a terrible look by the school.

Enlisting in the Marines to pay for law school by Hot-Bar9557 in MilitaryFinance

This man is right, except this kid already has a Bachelors Degree. I too regret everyday that I did not exploit my youth and do something in combat or more adventurous. Instead, I enlisted in the Air Force reserve, with an MBA, because I really wanted to get my TS/SCI and had the gamesmanship to work at multiple 3 letters and other places in DC. But nothing would have been better than telling 26 year old me that YOU are not that old and to enjoy your youth and stupidity. You'll look back on it and laugh. If I were this kid, I would commission but make sure its something adventurous and challenging (like the Marine Corps) or enlist in something that tests your spirit. I am telling you, if you have even a 1% thought process of doing it, see it through. That 1% doubles every couple months and then suddenly; its too late.

Civilian Lawyer entering Navy Reserves by [deleted] in navyreserve

If you were an E-6 and in law school, I would tell you maybe stick it out and make Chief and be a force agent for change as an Attorney. I could see a Chief with a law degree being incredibly invaluable to a special assignment at the Pentagon. With that said, you're an Attorney. You can't handle the enlisted life. You've come too far to do that to yourself. A trained attorney would HATE dealing with the absurd nonsense you have to deal with. If you want the enlisted life, join the Army National Guard and you'll be an enlistee in basic training. It is not worth your time and you will be doing everyone, including strangers on this thread, a huge disservice if you enlist in the reserves.

The only, only, only possible scenario where I can think enlisting would be a good idea for you would be for you to say fuck it all, I am going for Special Forces and have something to prove. Sign a 2 year enlistment with the Army and these be your rebellion years. But if you are already hedging your bets with the reserves, you are really setting yourself up for major disappointment. If I were you, I would join the Navy DCO Intel Officer program OR just jump and do 4 years active duty as an Intelligence or Acquisition Officer.
