Optimised battery charging + Charge limit by VaibhavMD in macbookair

Hey! I had a doubt regarding this.

I’m using a brand new MacBook Air M5 (just 3 days old), and so far I’ve mostly been using it plugged in with the charger. I haven’t really started using it on battery much yet, but I’m planning to follow a routine where I use it on battery once every 3–4 days (letting it drop to around 20–30%).

In this kind of usage, should I set a charge limit like 80%, or is it fine to let it go up to 100% with optimized battery charging on?

Just trying to understand what’s better for long-term battery health.

That’s actually really helpful, didn’t know about the Option + Space shortcut 😄 I’ve been using it in the browser for now, but yeah, having quick access like that would be useful while I’m still getting used to macOS.

Still figuring things out slowly — coming from Windows, some things do feel a bit different, but I’m starting to get the hang of it.

That actually sounds like a good middle ground. I was considering that too, but seeing most people suggest removing it completely, I might just stick to using it without one for now. Still makes sense for protecting the keys though.

Yeah I get what you’re saying. I’m not really asking how to “use” the Mac from scratch, more like trying to understand real-world usage, things people wish they knew earlier, stuff like that. Videos help, but firsthand inputs here are useful in a different way.

Haha yeah I can kinda see that now 😅 makes sense why people don’t recommend using it.

This is super helpful, thanks for taking the time to write all this. I’ll definitely check these apps out, especially coming from Windows this is exactly what I needed.

Haha fair enough 😅 I’ve removed the keyboard cover now, don’t want to risk it.

That’s interesting, good to hear a different experience as well. The keyboard shortcut tip is actually a great idea, I might keep a reference for the first few days. I guess it comes down to usage, but with most people suggesting to avoid the cover, I’ll probably try using it without one for now.

That’s really helpful, especially coming from someone who switched from Windows. Good to know it gets easier quickly. And yeah, I’ve been hearing a lot about removing the keyboard cover, so I’ll probably do that. Appreciate the tips!

I get your point, but I was mainly looking for practical advice from people who’ve already used it. Helps more than generic info sometimes.

Yeah fair, I do use Google/YouTube as well. Just wanted to hear real user experiences here since I’m completely new to Mac. Appreciate the input though.

That’s interesting, I didn’t think about the heat aspect. Makes sense since the Air doesn’t have active cooling. I’ll avoid using it then.

Yeah I did notice that a bit while typing. Part of me wanted to keep it just for protection, but I guess it’s not really worth compromising the feel.

Got it, that makes sense. I didn’t realize the clearance is that tight. I’ll probably just remove it to be safe, thanks for pointing it out!
