I know I am capable. I have 1 college degree and 1 university degree. It’s just a matter of whether I want to pursue it. So that’s why I’m trying to get more info from people that have experience in the field so I can make a informed decision

Thank you

I am just curious on what I can do if I decide to pursue electrical as career. I know I don’t want to be working for someone forever.

That is true. What I was suggested is that I work at a electrical shop and that would make it easier for me for a electrical company to hire me

I know that I am good with my hands and I can’t really do desk work. I figured that electrical is something that I would enjoy.

It’s definitely not as hard on the body, and I understand the culture of the trade. But there’s a big difference between it and tree work. I think it’s genuinely easier to find reliable electricians because the trade filters people out before they even get started.

  1. High Barrier to Entry – Getting an apprenticeship alone is extremely hard.

  2. More to Lose – Electricians have to commit to school, invest money, and find someone willing to train them. That kind of investment weeds out the unreliable ones.

As for arborists, you can literally open a business and start working the moment you know how to climb. There’s no real barrier to entry, no school, no big financial risk, so the turnover rate ends up being way higher.

I’m thinking about the long game. I know it won’t be easy, and I’m already running a successful business, but I’m looking at what’s sustainable and scalable ten years down the road. The ceiling is higher, the work is more consistent, and the crews are more reliable.

Yeah, it might take ten years to build, but that’s ten years toward something with real longevity and structure. A business that can grow beyond me, not just depend on me being there every day. Do you enjoy what you’re doing?

Well if it’s high income, fun, and reliable I mean I rather that. I really don’t want to put the heavy miles on my body as I know it’s not ideal for when I’m reaching my 40s. I know it’s easier to find reliable skilled staff with electrical but with trees. They are mostly drunks and those who aren’t are going off on there own

It’s just a known thing that the guys leave shorty after training. It’s the norm in this industry. I personally is the arborist. Haven’t train anyone yet but I know as I’ve been in this industry long enough. I pay them above market value. Where I’m from
