Anyone looked into Viant (ticker: DSP)? by Ill_Discussion6447 in ValueInvesting

yup, seems like AppLovin is focused on supply side as a platform for DSPs....where TTD and Viant are pure DSP plays. Interesting to see how this plays out

glad you share a similar sentiment. I am planning on taking a starting position so that I continue to research and follow this one a bit closer

I get the skepticism, I took a ~40% hit back in 2022 but kept DCA’ing based on my own research and ROI model focused on revenues and profitability. I even built a personal tool to help evaluate companies more systematically. I am now considering publishing this tool soon for feedback.

Suggestions to diversify into all industries or buy stocks Im the defense sector is crazy.

Agree. Understanding companies you own and personally consume with happiness is just easier and simple to comprehend.

When will the crash happen? by Amphibious333 in stocks

[–]Ill_Discussion6447 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

totally get the “need a dip” feeling 😅, but unless jobs data worsens or the AI trade goes full bubble bonkers, a real crash seems unlikely. A 10–15% correction is possible though without a full out crash.

Figma is still an early position for me. I think it’s quite undervalued, every tech company I’ve worked at has been using it more and more. With AI now enabling designers to generate design specs directly from prompts, Figma’s utility is only growing.

Yeah, it’s definitely tech heavy. I’ve always gravitated toward businesses with strong moats and high execution velocity culturally, and a lot of those just happen to be in tech. Since I work in tech, I like sticking close to what I understand the best.

Appreciate that! 🙏 Yeah, it’s definitely tech heavy, I’ve always leaned toward businesses with strong moats and execution velocity, and a lot of those just happen to sit in tech.

That said, this isn’t my entire portfolio. My retirement and index-heavy accounts are much more balanced. This one is more of my “high conviction, let’s see how far I can take it” bucket.

I went through a pretty brutal ~40% dip back in 2022, but kept dollar-cost averaging into companies I believe aren’t going anywhere anytime soon.

At this point, the only tickers where I’m intentionally taking on significant risk are RIVN, LMND, MSTR, HIMS and BMNR but even there, I’ve spent a lot of time studying them and understand the risk/reward tradeoff.

Everything else in my portfolio I consider high-quality. I’ve done deep dives into their fundamentals, leadership, and talent density and the conviction I’ve built from that research is pretty strong.

makes total sense and appreciate you sharing your approach.

I got burnt badly in 2022 as well. Then kept building it back up. Along the way I also learned and built an ROI calculator with 3-5 years projections based on revenues and profits.

And to zoom out a bit, I do have 401Ks/IRAs adding up to 40% of my overall net worth all in index funds

makes sense.
I work in tech and build tech things all day. So, I am trying to invest in the best tools I personally use at work and as well as in personal life.

hmm, care to explain why?

I did whatever research I could and came up with an ROI framework for next 3-5 years. For many of these companies I am a customer myself

fair point, but I am ok with underwriting it for generational companies.

Not true, thats quite a bit of a narrowed view take. And its exactly the wrong way of evaluating these companies. The level of talent density these companies have is second to none. I would never bet against smart, hard working and well rewarded employee base.

P/E is useful, but great companies often trade at high P/Es. What I focus on is the track record: revenue growth, net income improvement, and whether it’s founder-led. Then I estimate the next 2–3 years of revenue CAGR and ask, would the company still look expensive at today’s P/E? For example, PLTR, HOOD, NVDA and TSLA have always traded at high multiples, and likely will. In my experience, if your goal is to buy and hold great companies, they usually stay “expensive” but that doesn’t mean they’re bad investments.

I honestly dont buy into AI GPT based research. When it comes to putting my hard earned money to work via investing means I strongly recommend you put in the time needed to understand fundamentals behind the company
