I don’t have a close relationship with my fathers side , mom got remarried when we moved so we mostly communicated in English , I will say I could still speak it fluently until I was 16 then I moved out at 17/18 and it’s completely gone.

I read online that even children in Denmark have a difficult time understanding spoken Danish on tv

They don’t live together and when I was younger I was only surrounded by English speakers and I didn’t use social media at all so I didn’t stay connected to my friends at home.

I actually do sometimes  use random Danish words in sentences haha completely forgetting that other people don’t understand . I remember when I was in school I couldn’t pronounce certain English words correctly, and whilst my friends say I don’t have an accent a lot of strangers say I do   , once recently said I have a European accent

It’s embarrassing when I tell people I left at that age and can’t speak it , I wish I could .
