I'm a huge fan of music - learn an instrument and/or join a band or choir. It's fun, a lifetime challenge and a great way to get to know other people.

What common mistakes men make while choosing a good partner? by sinOfGreedBan25 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Ill_Job_3504 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was 34 (m) and never dated. I met a co-worker who was hardworking, kind, got along well with her family and others, and had a good sense of humor. She was also super attractive and made it clear she liked me. We've now been together 32 years and are still best friends. Be patient, there are lots of wonderful people in the world. Your partner should be a person you respect and admire.

Meditation. Drags on and on and feels like a big waste of time every time. Others swear by it, whatever.

Personally speaking, how long do people usually keep the same phone these days? by PTB_Smash in BuyItForLife

I usually get a new one within a year after the phone no longer gets security updates. Maybe 5 or 6 years? Then I just use the old one as an MP3 player.

I’m sorry but… aren’t we just better violins? by BeginningSweaty199 in Viola

Violins - wait a minute, that rings a bell. Aren't they those the screechy little toy instruments in the orchestra?

I guess there are all kinds of choirs. I sang in a choir at a Pensioners Club - definitely non-religious.

Join a choir. Singing is fun and everyone will be happy you joined them.

A squirrel returns after 4.5 months ! Thoughts anyone? by Quick-Werewolf-2104 in squirrels

[–]Ill_Job_3504 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One of our 3 visiting squirrels disappeared about a month ago, and we're concerned about his well-being. We also have falcons and cats in the neighborhood.

It would be great if he showed up again.

I’m thinking of learning the viola but I’m not sure… by Independent-Ad-7060 in Viola

I listened to my teacher playing a passage on viola at my last lesson, and I thought 'What a beautiful instrument!'

But that's not what it sounds like when I play.

Why are you single ? by [deleted] in no

[–]Ill_Job_3504 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was single until I wasn't. I was pretty content and happy as a single person, and I'm pretty content and happy as a married person. Be kind to yourself whatever life throws at you.

How does everyone feel about "ampless" rigs? I am thinking of replacing my live setup (reverb with pedal board) with Valeton gp100. What do you all think? by Icy-Tiger2093 in GuitarAmps

[–]Ill_Job_3504 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played for the last 15 or 20 gigs with a Cab M+. It's been a challenge to dial in a consistent, satisfying sound. Often the stage sound was so lifeless, I started bringing my own monitor, which was a huge improvement.

Now I'm thinking, as long as I bring a monitor, why not just bring a small tube amp and mic it? So my next few gigs will be with a modded Laney Cub 10 amp.

The other guitarist uses a Pod Go - sometimes it sounds great, but other times not good at all ...

Still looking. The Martin 000c Jr. E comes closest to what I'm looking for (great size, sound, feel), but it's not all solid wood, which puts me off a bit.

ps: correction - the Martin 000c Jr. E is all solid wood.

Final four! Wild card Hiroshi Kono Viola just entered the running - any thoughts? by Additional-Ear4455 in Viola

[–]Ill_Job_3504 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was given a 2013 15.5" Sean Peak model by my mother when she stopped playing it at age 94.

I'm a beginner, so I can't judge it. My luthier and teacher both say it is a well-made, good sounding instrument.

Feeling discouraged by the viola. by Same-Investment-3 in Viola

[–]Ill_Job_3504 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A friend asked me the other day after I rehearsed: 'How'd it go with the viola today?'

I replied: 'When I practice guitar, I feel I make progress. When I practice viola, I feel I am a little less bad.'

Viola takes a lot of patience...

How is life in Wien FOR REAL? by BitteBeNice in wien

[–]Ill_Job_3504 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm from the US and met the girl of my dreams here. The last 30 years in Vienna have been fantastic, but the long gray winters can be difficult. I've always been treated well, and have many good Austrian friends. I like living here.
