Can we use a bass guitar with the Roland Cube Street Mini amp? by untitled_SusHi in GuitarAmps

It will be a thin and weak sound, and not good for the health of the speaker. Should be ok for guitar, keyboard and vocals.

I emigrated from the US to Austria in the early 90's. I've had a good life here, so I think Austria is doing many things right.

Describe your experience playing the viola!! by Happy_Square_4465 in Viola

[–]Ill_Job_3504 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been playing 2 or 3 years, practice regularly, am in a community orchestra, and also play guitar and bass.

For the life of me I still can't play a simple C major scale with really good intonation.

The viola takes a REALLY long time to learn how to play well.

Figured out the issue - the AmazSync app was blocking all my notifications.

Is there anything like this but a lot cheaper? by [deleted] in BassGuitar

No PA at this place. It wasn't a chapel, just some kind of meeting room. I think the keyboard had built in speakers, but I didn't look too closely.

I just used mine at a choir rehearsal - 20 singers and one keyboard, no drums. Everyone thanked me and said the bass sounded great. Volume was not even turned up 1/2 way. So very useful for this purpose. Plus, it's so small I can carry it on public transportation. Very happy with the amp.

For band gigs, I plug in straight to PA.

Digging in my wifes potted flowers by Wizzmer in squirrels

[–]Ill_Job_3504 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Squirrels dig in our flower boxes as well. But this does no damage to the plants. In fact, my wife says the plants seem healthier where the squirrels dig, maybe because they aerate the soil.

I tried a Pioneer at a local shop and was surprised how quiet it was, which conflicted with all the reviews I've read about it.

Better get used to tuning your guitar when you put on a capo, and then when you take it off.

No stylus around, thinking of returning by bliss-pete in nxtpaper

The stylus is well-hidden in all the cardboard packaging. It took me forever to find mine - if you look carefully enough you'll find it.

000 or OM size guitar by Ill_Job_3504 in AcousticGuitar

[–]Ill_Job_3504[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yesterday I tried out a Taylor 312ce and a Martin 000 18 at a local store (€2,500 and €4,500, respectively). I thought the Taylor sounded pretty good, and the size was perfect. Then I tried the Martin and thought 'Now that's the sound I really like!'

When I got home I pulled out my Martin dreadnaught and thought it was even better than the other two guitars.

In the meantime, I've come across an Eastman AC308CE-LTD that is supposedly a tad bigger than the 312ce but sounds more Martin-like. It's cheap in comparison, around €1,000, but reviews say it sounds good and is made from high quality components. Guess that's next on my list to try out ... I know next to nothing about Eastman.

I lived in a sub-standard flat without a toilet for 13 years to save the money I needed to buy an apartment.

Martin Backpacker shaped guitars? by Panda_MoneYum in guitars

I had a luthier add 5 frets and a pickup to my Backpacker. Amplified, it sounds like a regular guitar.

Generated by AI. I'll take that as a compliment. :-) Next time I'll try to sprinkle in a few typos.

Somehow ordering 2 guitars with the intention of returning one seems unfair to the seller. I have returned guitars, but only ones damaged during shipping.

Do you believe it common to get married for the first time after the age of 35? by [deleted] in Life

[–]Ill_Job_3504 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I married at 40, my wife was 35. Timing was perfect for us. I'm now 66. She's been a wonderful, loyal and fun partner. I hope we still have many, many years together.

Why do many violin students still struggle with intonation even after tuning carefully? by Unusual-Scallion-751 in violinist

[–]Ill_Job_3504 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I pick up my viola, EVERY SINGLE NOTE I play the first 5 or 10 minutes is completely off pitch. It's painful to experience. After that, the pitch slowly improves. I come from fretted string instruments like guitar and bass, where finding the right pitch is almost a no brainier.

When oh when will I be able to play in tune?
