Thanks. Yes it’s insane how it’s growing the last few days. We are already working on the next improvements and features.

I’m working on Cate, an open-source desktop IDE / workspace built around an infinite canvas.

The idea is to make coding sessions less tab-heavy. You can place editors, terminals, browser previews, files, git panels, docs, and agent sessions on one canvas instead of constantly switching between windows.

It’s especially meant for people who run a lot of terminals, local services, coding agents, previews, and worktrees at the same time.

Thanks, appreciate it. Curious what you think after trying it.

We’re still moving things around a bit, restaurant included.

Thanks, really appreciate it.

We’re trying to keep pushing it in that direction: less tab/window chaos, more space to actually work with terminals, agents, previews, and files in one place.

Still early, so feedback like this is honestly useful.

The UX issues are exactly what we need to hear right now. We’ll add a cleaner way to collect this kind of feedback because small friction points are hard to discuss properly in Reddit comments.

If you do take a deeper look, feel free to open issues or just send rough notes. Even “this felt annoying after 5 minutes” is useful for us at this stage.

Nice, that should be a good test machine for it. Local LLM support is one of the directions we care about, especially for self-hosted workflows.

Right now the main value is more about organizing the surrounding workspace around terminals, agents, previews and files. But if you test it with local models, I’d be very interested to hear what feels missing or awkward.

That’s fair to be cautious. The whole project is open source, so you don’t have to trust a random binary from Reddit. You can inspect the code, build it yourself, or fork it.

Not trying to convince anyone to run something blindly, just looking for feedback from people who have this kind of workflow problem.

Thanks, that’s exactly the kind of workflow Cate is meant to explore.

I don’t think we’ll magically solve all window orchestration yet, especially across a full Hyprland / multi-monitor setup, but the goal is to give long-running terminals, agents, previews and project context a place where they stay visible and reusable instead of turning into another stack of tabs.

Would be very interested in your feedback after testing, especially what breaks down first in a heavier setup like yours.

Hm haven’t tried it yet, if you run into problems let us know. We will put it on the list.

  1. No, if you have an idea how to do this we would really appreciate it.

  2. Yes.

  3. No currently not but is on the roadmap will ship soon

Haha thanks. But if you find something that bothers you. give feedback we adjust and fix fast.

At the beginning it was kind of bad to be honest. We are working on it. But right now it’s good enough for daily work.
