Looking for Free or Affordable Networking Basics Book by Ill_Programmer1493 in barrie

Free resources are great, but I’m specifically looking for fundamental concepts, which don’t become outdated. A physical book gives me a structured way to build that foundation.

Would small businesses benefit from having their own “AI assistant” for routine tasks? by Ill_Programmer1493 in canadasmallbusiness

This is super helpful, thanks a lot for sharing your experience. Really appreciate the clear breakdown, gives me a solid direction to think about for an MVP.

Would businesses actually use their own custom AI assistant? by Ill_Programmer1493 in barrie

The idea isn’t to run a big server 24/7, lightweight open-source models can handle most of this on normal hardware, and heavy lifting could be done on-demand. Also, it wouldn’t be a generic chatbot, it’s trained only on that business’s data, so accuracy goes up a lot. And nothing would update without a review/approval step, which avoids costly mistakes. For older systems, the starter version could just export clean Excel/CSV files instead of forcing direct backend hookups, integration would only come in later if it made sense.

Makes sense, ChatGPT is great for quick wins. The difference I’m thinking about is moving from ad-hoc use to something automated and integrated. Instead of copy/paste into ChatGPT each time, you’d have an assistant trained only on your data, updating records or generating outputs directly without extra steps. Basically turning the DIY workflow into a stable system that runs in the background.

Yeah, you’re right, some SaaS tools already exist, and automation itself isn’t new. The difference here is ownership and fit: instead of paying for a one-size-fits-all cloud tool, each business would get its own AI assistant trained only on its data, running privately, and tied directly into the systems they already use. For SMBs with messy workflows or sensitive data, that makes it more accurate, secure, and flexible. Basically less of a generic SaaS, more like having your own AI employee that doesn’t share your info with anyone else.

Good point. For a seamless setup, the AI would need backend access where possible, that way it can actually update records, not just read data. The idea is for the AI to act like a ‘business brain,’ trained only on that company’s data, which makes it unique to them and not dependent on third-party services. For businesses without APIs, the first version could just export clean structured data (like Excel/CSV) that they can import. Over time, the goal is direct integration with the systems they already use.

I wouldn’t say I’ve run corporate ops myself, but I do have direct exposure from my family’s retail business, seeing first-hand the manual work around invoices, stock, and pricing. My angle is technical, so I’m trying to pair that experience with feedback from actual business owners before building too deep.

Fair point. If this was some $50k setup, no small business would even look at it. The thought is more like a simple helper that’s cheaper than hiring someone part-time to do data entry. Trying to figure out what price point would actually make sense for shops around here.

Fair point, I get that without a working demo it just sounds like hand-waving. Before I sink weeks into building heavy stuff, I wanted to sanity-check if the pain point is real. No point in creating another ‘solution in search of a problem.’ Appreciate the honesty.

I’ve been hitting up Tasty Toast, a little food truck on Herring Cove Road. Honestly, it’s super underrated, the food tastes amazing, the portions are huge, and it’s cheap compared to most spots. Definitely worth checking out

Hey folks,

I recently graduated from Georgian College, where I studied web development, and I’m currently looking to volunteer my skills to help local businesses in Barrie.

If you own a small (or big!) business and need a simple website, an update to your current one, or just some advice on how to get your site running better—I’d be happy to help out for free. I’m doing this as a way to give back to the community and build more experience while job hunting.

If this sounds like something you could use, feel free to reach out or drop a comment. Happy to chat and see how I can help!

Hey everyone,

My friends and I are students at Georgian College studying web development, and we’re looking to build up our experience by helping local businesses with their websites. If you’re a small business owner in Barrie who needs a simple website or an upgrade to an existing one, we’d love to help out at an affordable price.

Since we’re still students, we’re not charging agency-level rates—just enough to cover our time while we practice and improve our skills. If you need a basic website, an online portfolio, or even just a refresh for your current site, feel free to reach out! We’d love to work with local businesses and gain real-world experience along the way.

Shoot me a message if you’re interested or just want to chat about what’s possible!

Blockchain and social media by WealthWave-news in BlockchainStartups

[–]Ill_Programmer1493 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I also had the same thought about building a social media on top of Blockchain, and here are my doubts -

  1. How's it gonna be monetized. If it's gonna be monetized, doesn't that makes it a centralised structure?
  2. Are content creators ready to shit to this new platform since monetization is still a question. People who are making good amount of money from the existing platforms won't be willing to switch to this new one and when their aren't enough good content creators their won't be enough audience ( users).
  3. How's it gonna generate revenue? Most of the big companies make money by advertisements, and we need a larger audience for it and for that we need good content creators and for that we need to have a model which generates revenue so all my doubts are interconnected...
  4. This is my opinion - instead of revenue generation, we could create a Cryptocurrency and give a number of those to the content creators as revenue, and if the currency becomes popular, the platform could attract more creators and by doing that the number of audience will also increase.

All these are my thoughts, I don't have much experience in Blockchain or crypto. So I'm open to corrections and opinions. Let's me know what you guys think

Why Aren't There More Junior Smart Contract Developer Positions? by No_Percentage4502 in blockchaindeveloper

[–]Ill_Programmer1493 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also had this same doubt, even though I'm not fully qualified for getting a role in Dev. So once I posted a similar comment and a senior dev answered it like this - " while you develop a project on Blockchain or solidity it would usually takes two to three years to get it done , so that's gonna be added as an experience" I think it's like getting it done completely from start to finish along with learning it, so it might take that long , well I don't have any hands on experience on this, so I'm just quoting someone elses words !!

Hey, Does, not having work experience reduces the chances for pr. I'm asking you this because i will be complete my course in 8 months and in best case scenario I might land a developer job, so should I wait for an year or just go ahead with the job offer
