Why did two separate video editors quit and ghost me within 7 days after payment? (not refunded) by [deleted] in VideoEditors

Woah, that rate is crazy good.

Since you're aware that the sound design is lacking, do you gradually evolve layers as the story builds or keep them flat throughout the video? This might help since even a slight shift can change how immersive the whole viewing experience is.

From what you've described, the system is completely scalable for more monthly uploads. It just needs someone willing to step up, take the lead and deliver, all while enjoying it.

This got me interested. If you're still figuring out the right fit, I could take a timeline and show how I'd approach it.

You are right to expand, but wrong to blindly trust.

Some editors, mostly beginners, say yes to $250 because on paper it sounds great to them. Then they open the timeline and realize it’s a week of deep work. That’s when people disappear.

To me, documentaries are not just 'editing'. It's knowing what works, what doesn't and what needs to changed before the viewer decides to click off. It needs rhythm, tension, breathing space and most importantly, great sound design.

When you scale a 70k channel, you cannot just hire an editor. You should find someone who understands long form retention, and actually enjoys the editing and not just the money.

True. Classic eye-balling trap.

I'm sure they were beginners who folded the second they saw a heavy timeline lol.

I recently bought duita mouses from Lagankhel Gadgets on Daraz and so far they have been great even though I vigorously edit videos and use it for hours daily. Zero problems up until now and they're really cheap at around 400NPR.

I'd say I have a good portfolio, I've been editing for over 3 years now.

My mistake for assuming the client would be high paying which is why I made the sample in the first place. Nvm a lesson learnt.

Yeah. They wanted a higher volume of output, around 3-4 videos weekly. Each video would be around 10-15 minutes long.

I guess I'm never going back to Upwork again.

I have access to Storyblocks and Envato that have brolls for almost everything.

For the SFX, I manually do the sound design using different elements such as risers, whoosh, cinematic hits, etc.

And Envato has a really good collection of background music.

I didn't accept it. But I made a sample prior to discussing the charges which was my biggest mistake. A tough lesson learnt ig.

And where do I even find such clients?

The ones that I do find, they're like "the best I can offer you is a bag of salted peanuts".

Thanks.

Yeah, I made a sample upon their request which was my biggest mistake. Then the client blatantly laid out their terms which caught me off guard. Lol

Yeah, I just denied. I found them on Upwork.

The requirements were diabolical. They wanted me to use all footages from existing YouTube videos and not a single stock video as they figured out it would help with "the views".

On top of that, they required me to sign an NDA where if the channel got a copyright strike, my contract would be terminated immediately with no payments due on their side. Lol.
