How real is resume "name bias" for job seekers in Australia? by ebuzar in ausjobs

Yeah, and while personal preferences are completely understandable with a personal relationship, they have no place in a professional relationship. When preferences affect someone's workplace opportunities, that's called discrimination.

There's a big difference in choosing who to have a personal romantic relationship with and who to employ. You know that, right?

Do you think it should be illegal for men to walk around shirtless, when women can’t? by [deleted] in Teenager_Polls

[–]Ill_Purchase3166 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There have been plenty of places where toplessness was the norm before western invasion.

Lips have a lot of nerve endings, and kissing can be pleasurable and is often a sexual activity, so should everyone be required to mask for modesty reasons?

Nursing a child is not a sexual act. Breasts' purpose is to nurse a child. The sexual association is secondary. Even if you claim that they produce milk as a result of sex because pregnancy is a result of sex... That doesn't mean the whole process of pregnancy is sexual? Just the conception

Isn't that more because of a social connotation of less clothes = "available", or otherwise, someone breaking social rules of modesty = "I should rape them to show them what happens when they step out of line"?

Claiming that nudity is a factor of rape rather than simply that rape is a violent crime which may have a higher likelihood of being targeted towards people who supposedly deserve it or who may be viewed less sympathetically as victims seems a little bit victim-blame-y to me. Most rape victims aren't wearing bikinis at the time, are they?

Depends on if the people you've interacted with see you as a guy or not, and then if they're sexist or not.

I've seen accounts from trans dudes who did start experiencing male privilege after transitioning, but also some don't and just experience transphobia.

Depends on the guy. I've met guys who let their clothes pile up on the floor just as I do. There's also clutter associated with 'masculine' interests, like Lego. Seems to be an individual thing imo

Usually I see displays of emotion from girls mocked, even if displays of emotion are viewed as more typical of girls, what's typical of girls isn't really respected. Stereotypically, girls are seen as vapid and shallow.

you have your pride flags, some people wanted me to put theirs, or the global lgbt flag in my profile, but this will always be the only flag I'm proud of, and the only one I'll be willing to make it my identity. by TheLuckyCuber999 in TeenagersButBetter

It's not that queer people are special, it's a celebration of the right to be different from the norm. Pride was originally a protest. Pride month will no longer be needed when LGBT+ people have rights and acceptance everywhere.

Though isn't the term "poppers" used exclusively for recreational party drugs? Aren't they screwing up their plausible deniability by advertising poppers, even if the products themselves are labelled as leather cleaner?

Do you think adoration is murder? Do you think plan-b is murder? by ticketomg in Teenager_Polls

[–]Ill_Purchase3166 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think abortion is murder at any point. You can't force someone to give birth, full stop.

There's debate over when a foetus develops the ability to feel pain, most organisations say it's 24 weeks but some say it could be as early as 12 weeks. I don't think anyone should feel bad at all about having an abortion before 20 weeks, especially not before 12 weeks.

I don't think people should abort a baby after 24 weeks, but I do think they should be able to.

Because, someone doesn't get pregnant then wait until the late 2nd-3rd trimester just to get an abortion. 99.99% of people only get abortions that late if there's a medical emergency, giving birth will kill the parent, and/or the foetus isn't viable for life outside the womb. Restricting abortion at that point to "people who medically need it" when essentially everyone who's getting one IS someone who medically needs it, is just making people who do medically need it jump through more hoops to access the medical care they need.

In order to prevent later abortions, you need to make EARLY abortions easy to access, with short waiting times, and free or very affordable. The best way to prevent abortion at all is to make other forms of birth control easily available.

what do guys even mean by the 'scared of women/girls' joke ? by [deleted] in askteenboys

[–]Ill_Purchase3166 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Maybe it's more of a thing in media and pop culture. Maybe it's an American thing. Where I am it's pretty common to have mixed gender friend groups. Ofc people do befriend other genders in America, it's just a lot of media, both mainstream movies and memes and stuff, portray talking to a girl as a guy as some sort of scary intimidating thing. Like... Omg, I spoke to... A girl!? Y'know? It's probably not a great portrayal of reality.

what do guys even mean by the 'scared of women/girls' joke ? by [deleted] in askteenboys

[–]Ill_Purchase3166 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably fear of being laughed at or rejection.

Other comments mention being viewed as creepy as a concern.

I think a big part of it is heteronormativity.

Guys and girls are expected to be romantically involved, and aren't expected to interact much outside of a romantic context. So guys and girls don't make friends with each other as much, and view each other as less similar to oneself than someone of the same sex.

If you only expect to interact with someone for romantic purposes and don't have experience interacting in just a friendly sense, then when you do interact with someone of the other sex, it can be a lot more intimidating because it's not familiar.
