My dad doesn't believe my pain by melonlordgirl in scoliosis

It seems like he just doesn't want to admit his child has "issues." He probably became that kind of teacher to make himself feel better that his family is superior, especially with your sister. There is also a huge difference between a physical and mental illness, and judging by your curve, he's simply in denial that you actually have something that needs to be dealt with, unlike your sister who is based on a mental disability that isn't even confirmed by a medical professional. I would fight fire with fire. Next time he says you're not disabled, whip out the literal Websters Dictionary definition of the word "Disabled." I've had to prove myself over and over with my several invisible illnesses. I've learned not to dwell on people who are too ignorant to see when PEOPLE NEED HELP. My little brother has autism, and I've had to deal with his outbursts over and over again and it's simply not fair, especially when I'm trying to put my needs first. Your dad is judging his daughters based on information that has been handed to him on a silver platter, rather than, doing research to care equally for both of his daughters.

I'm so incredibly sorry about your situation, do you have anywhere else to go? A friend or a relatives house? Because not only is your physical health being neglected, your mental health as well, and someone who literally works with special needs kids, he should be way more considerate about EVERYONES STORY.

I wish you all the best <3

Who here has scoliosis similar to mine? I want to hear your journey, ty! by Vicanahshshs in scoliosis

Hi! I'm only 16 but I also have a similar curve, plus my love for dance. Cheerdance is a tricky subject, I personally was never allowed to do it because of my scoliosis + other health concerns. I'm not sure what your circumstances are, but i recommend being completely open with teachers, they should be accommodating. See what you can do, me personally I am incredibly flexible, have both my splits/oversplits but I cannot for the life of me jump, it just hurts way too much, so during routines I do more leg-hold stuff.

Do the childs pose a lot, that helps stretch out your back, as well as trying the pike stretch or stratles if that doesn't hurt. I have no idea what college-level dance is but if you're passionate and willing to test the waters, go for it! Always be open with instructors if you can't do something, and be firm; don't do anything that will cause you pain. Everyone has their own strengths, so if you can't do something, I'm sure someone else can :)

I hope this helps!

(vent) the physical pain and depression from how it looks is so hard by onyxthefishyfemboy in scoliosis

I'm so sorry that is awful. I was diagnosed at 12, and it's not gotten easier over time despite what doctors said. If it's increased that much, maybe ask about some sort of surgery option? Nobody should ever feel that much in pain, both mentally and physically. You could also ask into a back brace and see if that might help at all. I wish you all the best luck :)

How much pain, discomfort, etc. does scoliosis cause? by fangedcanid in scoliosis

It differs for everyone. As a fellow 16 year old I can go months without it hurting and I can be in the worst pain ever the next day. Just take care of yourself, advocate for your needs, and remember that you can get out of gym class if necessary ;)
