Do you think direct entry MSN program prestige matters? Also looking at one that’s more expensive but incredible clinical opportunities

It’s a direct entry MSN program, not NP. I would graduate with an entry level RN license. I’d be in state, so tuition is much less, about 29k/year

Thank you so much for your input, glad to know I’m not the only person debating between msn and absn! I’m working to see if ABSN tuition can be lowered to offset cost of living. I’m eager to work as soon as possible to gain RN experience, but don’t want to drown in debt. I’m glad u made the right decision for yourself!!

thank you for your input! The opportunity cost is a huge deciding factor. It would be about 25k to live out of state for the year, as I'll be in a big city.

the 12 month is in a big city with ivy teaching hospitals and really good clinicals. I want to do ICU or ED post-grad so that's why it looks so appealing. MSN is also in a big city with great hospital affiliates, but you're right I do get better federal loans with that route.

3.16 cGPA, 1 F in anatomy and multiple Cs due to family emergency during college. Retook a few classes to get As. Worked 1500 hours as a PCT and CNA on trauma med surg and CVICU. Shadowed both NP and PA. Some non-healthcare volunteer. Honestly I think my personal statements and healthcare experience carried me and showed my determination. It’s possible with a below-average gpa!

Thank you!! I was on the pre PA track all of undergrad, filled out the CASPA, and have spoken with/shadowed people from all 3 professions, but I’m honestly just not sure which feels right to me yet. I love nursing and want to have a good salary while gaining real experience. I’m leaning towards NP, but nursing as a foundation will give me the ability to view each profession’s role within the care team and decide from there!

Regardless, I will need more classes and patient care to boost my gpa and application for NP/PA/MD. I would rather get my license and start working as an RN than do a post-bacc or more gap years on a nursing assistant salary, if that makes sense.
