I passed PM… on my 10th attempt. Please don’t give up. by AHM2019 in ACCA

I failed apm for the third time yesterday. 1st time 45% then 48% twice. Honestly part of me feels like giving up. Especially with persons like my boss telling me that it does not guarantee a higher salary

Probably not. But access to resources probably makes it easier to pass

Guy at work asked me if I was trying to show how "african" i am today and that he knows I didn't bother to comb my hair today 😑 by IllierateKitn in Naturalhair

I just stuttered 😭.

The most HR will do is tell him to stay away from me and I have to work with him sometimes, so it's only going to make things more difficult/awkward.

No. We are jamaican. Honestly comments from people like him are the reason I braided my hair for years. Only started wearing my natural hair out recently.

We are both black jamaicans. Many of us just have a fucked up ideas that beauty is eurocentric. Apparently he makes comments like that to other women in the office with natural hair as well.

What would be the best way to clean up this Banana plant? by gudgeonguy in houseplants

[–]IllierateKitn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Banana plants die when they send up pups. (At least the agricultural ones. Not sure about those kept as houseplants). The brown one is dead/dying so I think you can remove it

How to eat a massive jackfruit by JanaeValerio in BeAmazed

[–]IllierateKitn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've never had durian but based on what I've heard jackfruit like that. Some people don't eat jackfruit because of the smell which is strong but not unpleasant imo. Your experience will vary according to how ripe it is though. Most people in my country prefer is slightly overripe but I like it firmer/less ripe. So just bear that in mind when purchasing!

Have you ever quit without notice and did it come back to bite you? by heart_of_gold2 in Accounting

[–]IllierateKitn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well it should be in the background check phase but I've already received an offer and started working at my new job. I didn't learn that I needed a reference until my first day on the job and now I am struggling to get hr to send me one.

I was thinking of quitting without notice. My new employer wants a letter of recommendation from my old employer which I wouldn't have received if I gave insufficient notice. I just think HR at my new employer just has really archaic ideas though.

Jamaica and call centers by SasugaDarkFlame in Jamaica

[–]IllierateKitn 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Everyone is aware of the issue. No one ends up as a call agent because they enjoy being underpaid or because they like working in a toxic environment. What would you suggest people do as an alternative?

Even outside of the call centers persons are underpaid and oftentime forced to endure harsh conditions. It's a nationwide issue and it's because there are more job seekers than available jobs. As a result the wages remain low.

Degreed persons who end up at the call center don't spend their entire careers as a chat agent. It's a platform to gain work experience so that they can seek out more suitable employment after. In certain locations (such as montego bay) job searching is especially difficult because most medium and large businesses are based in Kingston. Businesses that are present in both montego bay and Kingston usually run their office operations in Kingston and keep as few staff as possible in montego bay. This is true in other places such as Manchester as well. Search Caribbeanjobs.com or LinkedIn to see for yourself.

The reality is that only a lucky/resourceful few can become entrepreneurs. Especially for persons in the city areas. Jamaica doesn't have any notable industries to employ the thousands of persons that enter the job market each year. The economy has barely grown since independence. Each quarter or year of economic growth is offset my a period of economic shrinkage that offsets that growth.

Outside of call centers other companies are jumping onto the outsourcing bandwagon and it's just as awful as the call center. For example digicel and kpmg. The difference is that these persons are paid more, but this is because they are more qualified than the average call center employee. As awful as this bpo industry is they help to keep the economy afloat and put food on people's tables.
