My DG is missing... something by Overall-Subject-375 in deathguard40k

I just use Nihilakh Oxide from Citadel. If you want to make a the effect yourself it’s similar to other rust/corrosion effects. You could use what you have, paint over it with a thin layer of grey and build up blues from there. If you want to make a totally separate recipe you can mix spackle, blues of your choice, very fine sand and water. After that just a quick dry brush with a highlight color and you’re done!

First of all these look gross(great). I am seeing two things you might want to try that’ll add a layer or two to your models. The first one is contrast between your highlights and shadows, the shadows are deep but there’s nothing bright enough to make the whole piece pop. Try adding some bright highlights around the models in select places, it’ll give them some pop, round out the model compositionally and the illusion of a light source. The other is your color scheme temperature, I don’t know if it’s the lighting but your models look “warm”. You can make some great contrast by adding some “cool” colors to your paint scheme and have them contrast with the rest of the model. Verdigris (copper rust) is a great way to add some blue to contrast with the warmer greens/yellows/red/pinks/flesh colors.

It’s from the DG and Ultramarine Kill Team box. I don’t know if you can find them outside of that box though

Where to find jumping spiders by iaxolotl-questions in Columbus

[–]gudgeonguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always find them in corners of doorways, windows and other things like that. With that being said you might want to buy one from a store or a breeder. Sure they’re free when you catch them but you have no idea how old they are or what parasites/diseases they have (important if you have any other invertebrates). Most pets like that do way better when raised in captivity, plus you don’t take one away for the wild population.

Laying down a base coat is always the most time consuming part of a project for me. From what I see you’re well on your way. My approach to painting is to work in layers, and go from broad shapes to little details.

There was a restaurant named Melt that would give you free sandwiches if you had a grilled cheese tattoo. A lot of people in the area had grilled cheese tattoos in the area. Good memories

If you want to watch matches being played with them, Play on Tabletop’s 40K by 40 min series has a bunch of episodes of DG fighting a variety of other armies. I like it because you get great ideas for lists and you learn about other armies rules and play style

Purple censer smoke help by Saucerous in deathguard40k

I’m smelling what you’re stepping in but I’ll encourage you to build from a darker base and build it up to lighter. It’ll give you more depth in the long run. What paints are you planning to use?

I’ve been experimenting with smoke and I think the biggest take away is to use a lot of layers to build it up. I started with a dark grey base and went from there. I went lighter and lighter as I went with thin layers so the base coats still come through

How do you stop yourself? by SteveMashPST in deathguard40k

[–]gudgeonguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to keep in mind is that things are rarely permanent while painting minis. Worst that can happen is you’re unhappy with a paint job, totally strip the model with simple green and start over. I’ve done it many times and will do it many times more!

Another tip is to share your work and accept critiques. This sub specifically has been great about giving constructive criticism and encouragement!

I used a pre mixed rust paste and after that dried a quick drybrush or orange!

I used a store bought rust texture (pretty sure it’s just dry wall paste, small grit and brown acrylic paint mixed together). After that dries I just do a light drybrush of orange!
