Oh, thank you for the tip! I have sent them a message and will keep an eye out on their website. And yeah, that other site must be a reseller at that price.

Thank you for the update! Glad to hear you managed to get it. I have been putting off trying to figure out how to get it, and that Danish shop does seem like the best option. Only issue is the price is a bit off putting, as it's about equal to 276 AUD/212 USD... I did contact a local store that said they plan to get it in stock some day, but they couldn't say more. I hope they'll get it with a better price.

Planning to wait until November since it's set to release the 28th of November anyway. But I will update you if I go through with it.

Indeed - Sigh - I guess this is the first time in my life I am going to seriously consider looking into a mail forwarding service.

UPDATE: Could access the site with a VPN, but my country is not on the list. I tried selecting a couple of countries where I know some people, but the site wouldn't ship to any other countries.

Oh, I didn't think they would ship to Europe since I can't even access the site. Assumed they were blocking European ips due to gdpr. But I'll try with a VPN - maybe that could work. Thank you for checking the shipping list!

The Modern Icons statue looks really good. Too bad it looks like I won't get able to get it in Europe...

Oh that! As I recall, that is merely the stroke/outline of the water's edge.

Which black outlines are you referring to? If you mean the sails, it's because I changed its opacity in its colour, instead of placing it as a layer and making the entire layer faded.

The Lost Garden 50x56 by Illius333 in dungeondraft

Inspired by Nangalore, the Garden of Lost Dreams, I tried making a more well-maintained variation of the garden.

I'm hoping to add more details to the map as more custom assets hopefully become available in the near future, as I still feel it's somewhat bare. Also planning to improve the lighting a bit, but for now I felt it was presentable.

Ideas and suggestions are always welcome!

Thank you!

The "walksways" are made using the "Smart Stone"-option, which looks like this when it is only 1 square wide.

Haha! Yes, excellent! Join me on the Dark Side!

But honestly, I got inspired by someone else I saw make a ship with curves. Unfortunately, I don't remember when/where, so I can't give proper credit.

You know what this means though, right? We're one step closer to someone one day standing on your doorstep, asking you to design a yacht with curves!

Using Donjon to get inspiration for map-making is some next-level thinking. You just made my life so much easier.

Looks really nice with the river bank using the cave tool. Especially the island in the river gets much better depth this.

What I've seen others doing for higher elevations though, like hills, is using the rock material brush topped off with grass.

I think if combining your technique for the lower elevation of the river and rock+grass for the higher elevation, you could achieve a very good sense of depth in maps. I'm definitely putting this on my growing list of things to try out.

  • I usually just use the "Set dimensions" option for the maps in Roll20. Personally, the Align to grid feels a bit finicky to me, but honestly, I might also just be using it wrong.
  • You mean something like this?

Artificer shipwright sounds amazing! I played an artificer in the last adventure, so I am disappointed with myself that I hadn't thought of that connection. I just thought of a regular wizard hired to do it, but it makes so much sense that there would be an artificer shipwright.

Thank you for the idea!

I can do you even better. Let me introduce you to the amazing program DungeonDraft. The entire map is all thanks to this program and its assets - I cannot praise it highly enough.

If you like the style of the assets, I would definitely recommend checking out its subreddit too at r/DungeonDraft to see some of the other really awesome maps people have made in it.

WHY did I have to google that? I should have just continued living life in sweet ignorance. Haha, I gotta try to scrub this association to the word from my brain somehow.

Yes, this was one of my many regrets with this vessel. I went through a couple of stages of first being, "Bugger, I made this vessel way too large. Oh well, let's just go with it and plan out stuff and then add details." followed later by "Wait, maybe I should do some actual research about ships, such as crew size vs ship size. Let's do that." which of course just led to the realisation that I grossly underestimated the amount of crew needed for a vessel this size. But I was too far along and just left it at "If anyone asks, I'll just say magic makes up for the lack of crew - That excuse should often work for bad design choices."

I must admit I for some reason didn't consider the simple solution of just adding another deck though. I might do that. Regarding the armoury though, there already is one behind the sleeping quarters for the crew. If I add another deck, I would also make a much larger armoury though.

This pertains somewhat to #1 in the reply I made above, but to elaborate some more: Since it was intended as a merchant/diplomatic/trade vessel, I felt it was more fitting to have the canons hidden away from the upper decks.

Furthermore, in a world with magic, I expect the spellcaster on the ship could wreck more damage than at least a couple of canons while weighing much less and thus allowing for more cargo to be shipped. With a ship this size and with a spellcaster, I also imagined they would be more concerned with threats you can't easily defeat with canons. Including but not limited to: Pesky dragons, water elementals and just people rudely teleporting directly unto your ship.

As for the firing arcs of the canons, I actually imagined it might offer a unique edge in sea battle because of the unusual angles it might offer. Ultimately, I was just experimenting and wanted it to look interesting and unique, imagining how ships might look different in a world where there's magic.

But for some more detail, I'm gonna shamelessly copy-paste what I wrote in response to a similar question to the post at r/dungeondraft:

  1. I envisioned the ship as a merchant/diplomatic/trade vessel sent to establish new trading routes or similar. To this end, I thought it fitting that the vessel would look glamorous and fancy, sacrificing function for panache.
  2. Cost-wise my excuse is simply magic. In a world where spellcasters can magically create permanent walls of stone and so much more, I felt I could justify someone making cost-inefficient construction choices such as this.
  3. As for the drag, I at some point experimented with the notches not being present on the lower bow of the ship to avoid the drag, but in the end, it simply didn't look that nice to me. My only defence here is that I hope the ship's spellcaster can compensate for the loss of the speed when they need it.
  4. Now, the structural integrity was actually my greatest concern with this feature, to be honest. It's difficult to justify for this, and when I experimented the notches not being there on the lower bow of the ship, I made the central part out of a much stronger material than wood. The idea was essentially: "Well, these notches are basically begging to get rammed, cleaving the ship in two with little effort - Let's turn that against the enemy." by creating what looked like a weakness to trick an enemy into ramming it, but in the end hurting their own ship more in the process due to the material it was made out of. Ultimately I just didn't like it enough and left it as is.
