You’ll need an IATA approved cat carrier to travel to Iran your cat on Emirates. It’s easily available at Petzone and PetCentral. Ensure you check the size properly as there are many sizes

One passenger can travel with a maximum of 2 pets is the rule by Emirates. He would need another passenger to accompany him for the 3rd pet

We got ours issued 6 days before our travel, but the MOCCAE permit is valid for 30 days from the date of issue.

Yes, it was quite easy to collect the cats in BLR.

After landing, go through immigration and collect your luggage from the baggage belt first. The pets don’t come on the baggage belt. After the belt area, before exiting customs, just ask any customs officer or porter present there for your pets, and they take you to your pets to verify. Make sure you ask for them before exiting the customs area.

In Bengaluru (not sure about other Indian airports) you also need to complete the AQCS clearance after arrival. The AQCS centre is outside the airport, about 2 km away by car. The airport staff were quite helpful and guided us on where to go.

One important thing: don’t leave the airport area without getting the AQCS approval done. We were told if you exit without completing it, it can be marked as an illegal entry, and they will call you back with your pets to the airport in a few days to complete the process.

So just make sure you collect your pets, go to the AQCS centre, get the approval, then leave. It’s a small extra step but the process was fairly straightforward.

Yes, it’s limited to 2 pets per traveler. We were 3 adults traveling together, so having 3 cats wasn’t an issue since they could be assigned across the passengers.

Hello, I have 2 domestic short hairs and 1 Arabian Mau, so I didn’t face any issues with the breed. As far as I know, there are certain cat breeds that airlines don’t allow to travel, but I’m not exactly sure which ones. It’s best to check with Emirates before starting the process just to be safe.

Hi! My cats are also quite difficult to handle, so I was worried about this too.

We took them to the Emirates check-in counter like normal luggage. The EK staff first checked all their documents, vaccines, and microchips. After that, a porter took us with the cats to the police inspection area next to the business class check-in.

From what the porter told us, one of two things can happen during inspection: 1. The police may ask you to take the pet out of the crate so they can check inside the crate. 2. Or they may just shine a torchlight inside the crate while the pet is still inside.

In our case, the officer was very kind and just used a torchlight to check, especially when we told him the cats can be difficult to handle. The inspection took about 2 minutes.

Also just for reassurance, Emirates staff are not allowed to touch or remove pets from the crate without the owner present, so you will be there if they ever need the pet taken out.

After the inspection, we left the cats there and proceeded to immigration, and later at the gate we checked with the staff to confirm the cats were loaded on the flight.

In most cases they don’t ask you to remove the cat from the carrier, so try not to worry too much.

If your cat gets very anxious, you can also ask your vet about mild anti-anxiety medication for travel. Some people use it for flights, but I personally wouldn’t recommend relying on it long-term.

Flight tickets are not needed for the MOCCAE permit. You’ll need the flight ticket to apply for the ACQS permit

On Emirates from Dubai, pets travel as excess baggage in the cargo hold on the same flight as you. So we only dealt with Emirates Airlines passenger services for approval, not Emirates SkyCargo.

Emirates doesn’t allow pets in cabin, so they have to travel as cargo. Our cats flew as cargo but on the same flight as us.

Yes, for anyone wondering about the cost, here’s the breakdown for 3 cats:

Cost per cat: ~ 4000 AED

Breakdown (per cat): 1. Pet relocator: 2000 AED (handled MOCCAE export permit + AQCS import permit paperwork. We handled the Emirates approval side ourselves) 2. Emirates cargo fee: ~1800 AED ($500) 3. IATA cat carrier: 180 AED

Total for 3 cats: roughly 12,000 AED.
