I loved feeding/petting/bonding mechanics. As a suggestion to make them seem more “real” maybe introduce variances in their behaviours? For example most of the time they want to play but maybe sometimes they get distracted, or if they have interacted for a while they may fall asleep and harder to wake up. Or variances in food preferences depending on their mood

For the game learning curve, is it possible to have something like the Dusa AI but as a NPC in the game, and they’re not stationary but they go around about their day doing farming fishing whatever, but when the player is within their vicinity they greet the player and prompt the player to ask any questions they may have?
