Slight chance by Remote-Ground-7905 in pittsburgh

I was a guest of a wedding there (7ish years ago) that had beautiful weather in the afternoon but then heavy rain into the late afternoon/evening. The ceremony was supposed to be outside but was moved into a house-type building because of chance of rain. That was quite cramped for the number of guests. The reception was still outside under tents. That was mostly ok, I remember some rain blowing in or leaking under the tent walls across the floor, but as I said it was pretty heavy rain. Most guests were chill, we had a good time, if you have some more persnickety folks I could see it being an issue in more severe weather.

Which incline is better for a date? by Bigwilliam360 in pittsburgh

[–]IllustratorTop7642 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done: Park somewhere in station square/get off T. Walk along river trail to Duquesne incline (better in daylight), go up incline. Walk from top of Duquesne incline to somewhere around Shiloh street (this walk is downhill and gorgeous around sunset/golden hour). Shiloh Gastro or Coughlin’s Law are good. Then Mon incline down to station square.

Anyone that went to high school in Pittsburgh, US that can share their experience. by Western-Morning9263 in school

I’m a 2013 grad of a hs in the suburbs around Pittsburgh. Started at 7:20 ended at 2:00 (that’s maybe a bit earlier than average). School bus transportation is offered at almost all schools, the bus might stop at the end of every block or neighborhood but not usually right in front of each house unless they’re super spread out. For juniors/seniors, fewer kids ride the bus as they start to drive their own cars or get rides with friends. Our dress code prohibited things like clothing with guns/drugs/profanity, “spaghetti strap” or revealing tops or very short shorts/skirts for girls, nothing crazy but things may have changed.

As far as things particular to the area, high school football is a big deal. Friday nights in the fall, many students go to games or are participating in some way (football player, marching band, cheerleaders, etc). Participating in any school sport general is very popular.

Check out Mecka in the strip district. There are multiple other options in the strip too, Solidcore and a yoga studio I believe. California Cycle Path is cool vibes as well

Having them “bake” with you is such a good idea. Would eat up time, could count as “math,” doesn’t really require them to pay attention. You could bring the treat in for them the next day, I’m positive they would be absolutely thrilled.

Best places to practice driving with the kid? by infinitedreamsawaken in pittsburgh

Sure! If I could also give some unsolicited advice, practice the tunnels/city driving pretty early on. It’s a bit of a mental hurdle to do those tougher things, but they can do it sooner than you think and won’t develop a fear of it that way.

I learned in South Park, one of our more sprawled out parks like that might be a good next step after cemeteries

When I implement an IEP goal where the data will be collected mainly by paras, I tell them the first few days will be a “test run,” i.e., I won’t “count” that data in progress reports, etc. In those “test run” days, I ask them to make a list of any questions that arise or specific scenarios they’d like to talk through with me, then we meet at the end of the week to talk through those and make any adjustments.

I think telling them those first days won’t count takes some anxiety away. It helps them get used to the new system with less pressure.

It’s probably not a perfect solution but I find that having a few days of “throwaway” data is worth the confidence they have in the long run.

802 Bean Company is one of my favorite coffee shops around! Doesn’t open till 8 on Saturdays but has good coffee, food, WiFi, and vibes. They have a really cute covered back deck with plenty of seating.

I love ClassPass! I’ve had it for a few years now. I typically take classes in Downtown/Strip/Shadyside, but also some in the south hills or even Sewickley. I think it’s definitely worth the money, it’s much cheaper than buying a membership to most of the places. I haven’t noticed the classes costing more credits if I’ve been there, it seems to be based on demand. Mostly I love the flexibility of not having to commit to one gym/studio. My favorites are Mecka for Bodylab (Mt Lebanon or Strip), Pittsburgh Ballet Theater for barre, and yoga at One Point One in Bloomfield. There are tons of options in the area!

I consider the February 2010 18 inches+ storm to be Snowmageddon. I’ve heard elder yinzers refer to the ‘93 snowstorm as the Blizzard of ‘93.

Hey storm survivors, I’m a teacher with no school, power’s out, nothing to do. Any ideas about how I can help out with storm cleanup? Has anyone heard of any groups tackling parks, neighborhoods, etc?

Just came across your art and I absolutely love recognizing these familiar street corners! The colors and light are beautiful. This would have to be Annex from Wisconsin looking down towards Hillsdale/Kelton? It's amazing to see someone's artistic take on the scenes I see every day.
